What Jobs are we doing in the Garden today 2014..

Just drilled drainage holes in some new pots I bought. My new raised bed is being delivered this afternoon. It's being delivered by DPD. They seem to be very keen on telling me when it's going to be delivered. The only thing they haven't done is send me a carrier pigeon to let me know as I've had both a text and an email about it. They reckon it will be delivered between 13.39 and 14.39. I'll be checking my watch!


ETA ....the raised bed was delivered at 13.39. Well done DPD!

 

Did a lot of geranium cuttings from a couple of plants I bought last spring. Strange that I bought 4 in all or the same variety originally and 2 were the colour I was after (a deep blood red which didn't fade at all, the other 2 had that orangey/cerisey tinge to them, which I don't particularly like. I only use a few plants a year, so if they all take, not sure what I will do with 20! Donate to village fete I expect.
Also cleaned up some osteospermum and gazania which have survived so far and I might bring them into the garden room to avoid them getting frosted.
Then it absolutely pished it down.

Good for you! I want my stone circle gone too but it is huge and not easy to dispose of, and OH likes it. One day ...

Like loofah I've took advantage of the dry and mild weather.
I've removed more lawn to extend the tropical bed (note to self soil is very heavy in January )
Some general tidying up in the Greenhouse

 

had a few trips out there over the last week - mostly clearing up - (before Christmas the strong winds blew down the rotting cherry tree next door - onto my plastic greenhouses!!! - good in one way - as it shaded my greenhouses - but still doing the clean up - and greenhouses were replaced ) Potted on some Aquiligias that were sown late Summer plus a few others that were on the shelves. Noticed many of my overwintering Fuchsias have started to sprout already.

Got one job out of the way today. A couple of the posts holding up the wire in the chicken run needed replacing.

Nothing's ever simple is it? Removed the old, rotten posts, dug out along the bottom of the wire (did I have to bury it so deep?) and insert new posts while keeping an eye on newly formed chicken escape committee.

Try to staple netting to new posts, drop several staples because they're so small and fiddly ...... find netting won't quite reach new post because I haven't put it in exactly the same position as the old one.

Meanwhile, say hello to new neighbour's dog which comes helpfully bounding down the garden to see what I'm doing and frighten the chickens.

Knock over tin of netting staples, pick them all up, including ones which have of course landed in a nice fresh chicken poo.


Decide to drive one of the old posts in between the new ones to give a bit of extra stability to the newly re-attached chicken wire,which is looking a bit wonky.......at which point the head falls off the sledgehammer.

.....and so on. I did eventually complete the job, just hope the hens appreciate it.

I think you can, my chilli plant is doing well on the windowsill, flowering profusely and has a cilli growing now (see if you can find it, :P) .. I think its ready to give its new crop...
