    Thank goodness for that - nasty stuff is engine oil, particularly used stuff. Are the chooks going to be OK with it?

            Planted the palms in the ground, watered them in then the heavens opened for around 15min torrential downpour.
            Tomorrow is potting on day!

              Sounds like its from petrol engines rather than diesels then, as the diesel stuff tends to be black as the earl of hells waistcoat and stinks a bit. Any engine oil can be carcinogenic, beside the risk of dermatitis etc - - just tread carefully with it.

                Planted up 2 standard roses in my new planters. Did some tidying up and weeding in main flowerbed. Dug up lots of chinese lanterns - they are so invasive and annoying and I can't seem to get rid of them properly no matter how many roots I dig up. Then lazed in the sun with the dogs for the rest of the afternoon

                  I've taken the chance and planted out three dozen Arctotis that were on the verge of climbing out of their pots, I'll probably find just stumps tomorrow if slugs take a fancy to them. Emptied the old mpc from my fixed wall baskets and planters and replaced with a mixture of coarse and fine with a good sprinkling of blood, fish and bone. They are now ready for planting up and the old compost is now on the beds. Washed trays, pots and labels.

                      When it stops raining, I'll take a piccie of them - they are tucked up in the mini GH. To be honest, I couldn't see any difference as I was putting their labels in.

                        @joolz68 ,
                        this is what last years adults look like today. Cambridge Blue at the back and Oxford Blue at the front. The leaf seems darker and more rounded on the OB.
                        P1040575.JPG P1040576.JPG And here are some of yesterday's - planted up. Cambridge Blue (left) and Oxford Blue ( on the right).I can't see a difference at this stage. Seems a bit illogical to me that the darker OB salvia has the lighter coloured leaf,
