Yup, that's much finer than "granular fertiliser" (I was referring to the likes of Growmore), and thus not going to have the burning potential of coarse granular fertiliser, its also slower release.

Personally I still wouldn't use the likes of blood, fish and bone (for potted plants) as getting a consistent rate (and in particular "not too much") is more tricky than something like a liquid feed; although more leeway on large pot, than a small one of course.

Having said that, I wonder how accurate the application of, say, Miracle Gro is. I put my one / two scoops into a 10L watering can that is about 1/3rd full. I then 1/3rd fill a second can and pour the first can into the second (to effect a mixing), and then top up the second can until full.

At the step of pouring from the first can to the second it runs clear from the spout for a bit, then bright blue, then light blue, and then a final burst of bright blue again, include some "bits" that hadn't dissolved. By trial and error I have found that this two-can approach gives me pretty consistent colour when pouring out of the second can (direct onto the plants) but for small plants I then decant, again, into a 5L can (because it has a smaller bore spout, and a slower delivery rate) so that I can apply smaller quantities into small pots. That additional decant gives me a very consistent mix.

But just chucking 2 spoon measures into a can and stirring it a bit with a stick isn't going to achieve a consistent dilution from start-to-end of a watering can load, I reckon.

My Calla's are in a large pot, it's their first year so I'll see how they go. :)

Miracle Gro is horrible stuff to work with, just about everything gets tinted a shade of blue! :doh:I put the scoops into a watering can, run the tap to give me just enough water to swish it round quite hard and then fill it up, that seems to give me an even dilution. :)

Today I moved some unhappy hostas to a shadier spot and did some weeding. Fed my dahlias tomato food and just pottered!

Watered, then did some watering, and oh did I mention I also did some watering......:heehee:

Did mean to get around to some deadheading, but that got lost in the mist of watering. Not a lot of time this evening, going to have to work out a new schedule now I am working proper again. :ideaIPB:

@Kristen they use an oil stone. With a bit of practice it's dead easy. :blue thumb:

On tuesdays i go to a local rabbit rescue to cuddle n brush bunnies. Today i walked in and one if the owners had chopped half the buddleia back and was cutting it up to fit in the green wheelie bin.

My gardening obsession has got so great that i choose to do that rather than cuddle the baby bunnies

Wish I hadnt though as i now have blisters on my hands because their secateurs werent very sharp

Put some tie supports around the tomato plants, removed their robbers,
and did a lot of staring....

Adjusted the outside tap that I fitted at the weekend 'cos I noticed it wasnt quite square:

Thankfully I hadnt soldered the other end of the pipe but used a compression fitting otherwise it would have had to stay like that. Installed the timer & the drip irrigation to water the pots out the front while Im off in the USA for a week.

Yes, I can see that that would work well. The pro's seceteurs are always brilliantly sharp too, and clearly they disassemble their Felcos and "service them" .. as should I, but don't :(

Disposable scalpel blades are brilliantly sharp and no "with practice" needed :)

Is there a reason you have it "sideways"? (assuming that wasn't the "Before" shot??)

I have used an oil stone to sharpen my knives for years (including those used in the house lol), and a drop of 3-in-1 on the mechanism of the seceteurs works wonders.... :blue thumb:

I put WD40 on the little Drapers snips tool yesterday 'cos it kept sticking and making the dead heading job more cumbersome. Had put up with it for ages without brain connecting... As new again now,

I made the effort to water the tomatoes this evening having spent a good part of the day on the beach with my grand-daughter. :)

Having taught people, for many years, how to sharpen cut-throat razors has come in handy for keeping blades sharp. :) :blue thumb:
