Yesterday I planted some tomato "Tumbler" seeds - bit late, but we will see.

Put up a mesh barrier down the bottom part of the garden to: a) give the girls a chance for free ranging over a greater area; b) present a visible barrier so Ozzy doesn't chase them; c) to keep the girls of my direct sown seedlings and d) to stop *me* from going insane with frustration until the man who did our fencing last Autumn can come back and rectify a couple of issues. The barrier doesn't look pretty, but it is effective.

Today I need to plant my beans, peas and some lettuces.

My watercress experiment is still going well, but it's taking longer than I thought to get a decent amount for eating any time soon :heehee:

        dahlias front garden.jpg

And they're off! First dahlias in the ground now and some begonias planted along the top of the wall in the front garden. Dahlias are Arabian Nights, (dark red), and Gladioli along back will be Roma (dark red), begonias no idea.

All eyes on the weather now hoping there are no nasty late frost surprises on the way.

Forgot about that Merle. Going to the tip is a big proportion of hours spent. Every little pruning exercise turns into another car load.

Have done two trips to the tip, mostly with old rugs and stuff from the garage. Less to chuck in the builders skip. Lovely and sunny here but rain forecast for later. I want my ruddy garden back but the builders have said it may run into early next week (they work bank holidays but will be off Friday/Saturday). I wanted my new patio for the bank holiday weekend (as well as being able to get out in the garden and sit in the sun) [IMG]

pruning --> car load ---> TIP!!!???? :thud:

                :nonofinger: :nonofinger: :nonofinger:

pruning ---> wheel barrow ---> COMPOST BIN! :dbgrtmb:
= £'s saved on petrol + £'s saved on buying compost = more plants!! :dancy:

*toddles off muttering: "pruning's to tip, indeed" * :heehee:

Haha M. My tip is 2 minutes drive and the prunings go to recycling, and in return I am allowed three free bags of compost.

Hence the council recycling centre is really my paid for compost bin, hence freeing up space for more plants in my garden.

£'s saved on petrol - fair point
£'s saved n compost - almost fair point.
Space saved in garden - priceless !!

We had a frost last night too. Time will tell whether the Dahlias will be affected by it (tiny little shoots are popping up on a few).

I couldn't believe it when I looked out the window to see a light dusting! Glad I haven't planted anything out yet, the fleece is coming out tonight!

Tried all our local garden centres for traditional hazel bean poles - "No call for them nowadays, sir" was the reply from all of them ! - So, determined to have a rustic wigwam instead of canes - I cut some suckers from the flowering plum and fashioned a rather Heath Robinson construction which I hope will do the job.

Great idea ... just be careful because I have a feeling that plum suckers may well root (?) Hopefully I'm wrong.
Always tickles me when companies fail to see the irony of replying to a request with: "No call for them ... " :heehee:
