What jobs are we doing in the Garden today 2015

Planted out some Chard 'Fordhook' plants.
Re-potted some Rocket plants for the boot sale.
Sowed some Beans 'Dwarf ' and 'Enorma' seeds.

Blowing a hooley in the garden so decided to sit inside and go through some
of my plant seeds, I keep meaning to sort them out into boxes, ones that need to
go in the propagator, no heat, outside, etc.

Hope it's a bit warmer on Wednesday.

 

It didnt rain for long and the lawn wasnt wet or damp for some reason so i did mow the grass and then been going round cutting the edge of the lawn with scissors. Almost got it all done but going to have to finish it off tomorrow

Outside was abandoned today, I can't stand working in the wind so decided to tackle the cleaning of my ovens instead. Having scored points for that, I'll be back out there tomorrow!

 

Had some time after work so did more potting on, planted up another hanging basket, dug up some bluebells up and swept the patio. My back is killing me!

 

A little bit of weeding and watering

 

- potted on all of my Lagurus ovatus seedlings, should have done this a long time ago as they were a little pot bound
- potted on the final two Ricinus communis which are now about 20" high!
- potted on the remainder of the Rudbeckia 'Cherry Brandy' - none of them look overly healthy but none look awful either. Hopefully they'll strengthen up as they get bigger.
- thinned out some poppies to final spacing (Papaver somniferum 'black single')
- potted up my latest order of Dahlias which arrived this morning
- watered a bit more as it's a scorcher today!
- then promptly ordered a seep hose for the borders as the watering could get very tedious... :D

So... lots of potting up! The garden looks like a nursery at the moment but it already looks great. Very different this year as there are so many plants!

Random question: does anyone know how many flowers you get per opium poppy plant? I know I should just wait and find out but I'm impatient as to whether it's just one flower or more.

 

back from 14 days holiday, and the property/gardens need help. grass cutting, weed pulling, leaning out of spent flowers. But truly still beautiful.

Watering, weeding, hardening off and enjoying how everything is growing.

 

After some DIY shopping this morning, some DIY this afternoon I managed to rake my little front lawn. It has had two dose of iron sulphate which had killed off a good deal of moss. Now ready for a mow with my 60 odd year old qualcast.

 

You should get 5-10 flowers per plant. Not surprise you to hear, it depends on the size of the plant!


I cut the grass - on my own, dogs!! - well most of it. Didn't have enough petrol to do all of it, and didn't want to go out to get some...

Then wandered round with my camera taking photos I would like to upload, laptop permitting, and picking salad leaves for tea. Going to have lettuce, two different types of rocket, two different types of marjoram, bronze fennel, and chives, all from the garden, in our salad tonight!

 

Thank you - in that case I am 5-10 times more excited than I was before!! :D I thinned lots of poppies out today to give them more room to breathe, this is reassuring info.

 

A word of caution Jack. Don't handle the seed heads without gloves, they have a strong smell and it will stay on your hands for days!

I've 'edged' the 60ft long grass verge outside my front wall today as it was badly overgrowing the public footpath and filled three 150ltr compost bags with the trimmings! I then cleaned my windows outside, it's much better not looking through salty fog.
