Mostly finished planting up greenhouses with tomatoes and French beans, basil. Also hoed potatoes, weeded parsnips ( poor germination again) put up a couple of runner wigwams. Rabbits at my herbaceous border again, ate all the alstroemeria flower tips:( so must make more little wire cages tomorrow.

I have the mothers here (sounds like some old-fashioned form of rash!!) so not got that much done. However, yesterday I did a couple of trug-fulls of weeding, and took the cloche covers off the plants on the veg-bed!! Today we have rain forecast for most of the day (very much needed) so it is unlikely I will get much done....

Just a bit of deadheading, clipping 2 green shrubs into shape, and potting up 2 pots of mint.

Been another day of weeding, digging over and doing battle with that weed which name starts with a capital F.......... hmmmmmm, what is it called again?..........

          Ah yes, CREEPING BUTTERCUP!!! :gaah:

I swear to goodness, napalm would struggle with that bloody stuff - I am sure that there must be someone in Australia wondering why patches of their lawn have just disappeared into wee sink holes - - its because of me pulling out creeping buttercup.

Well, although it is not finished, I thought I would share some progress pics - please excuse the pots and black bags lying about, I still need to plant stuff out and do a dump run or three. Firstly, the reshaped border with its wee curve:

My special plant - her name is Jenny, and if you think about it for a moment you will soon know why ;)

          2015-05-28 16.19.34.jpg
To think that plant started out as a wee baby in a 9cm pot overwintering in my front porch; to the left of Jenny by the fence, you can see the now relocated Passiflora; it has already found its feet in as much as it has started to produce new growth, I just need it to do a hell of a lot more and give me some nice flowers.

          My two newly planted Gooseberries:

          2015-05-28 16.19.49.jpg
I trimmed the Spirea Japonica (thanks to Silver Surfer for the ID) to fit these in, but am now toying with the idea of butchering it completely and sticking my blackcurrants in there - however, not sure if that corner isn't a bit shady for the blackcurrants?

I still need a couple of bags of slate to fill up my 'step' but hopefully this will give you an idea:

The new grass seems to be settling in nicely, but the seed sown last weekend is still refusing to show face despite a good sprinkler session each night - - I am worried that I am going to have to cut the grass shortly, and it still won't have germinated.

@Anthony Rogers - you are too kind, but it is all smoke and mirrors, just point the lens an inch to left or right and the illusion is broken :snork:

Started on the worst job in the garden today, the massive eyesore at the end of the garden I've been avoiding for years . So chopped down various old/dead trees as well as a huge dying wisteria (was rotten so not as bad to root out as expected) and an old falling down pergola structure from the 80s I think all gnarled up with the wisteria. Only one stump left for removal (another day!) and have cleared it of weeds and rubbish (too embarrassing to menion what I'd chucked inside to hide over the years ;)). Plan the next few days is to get rid of all the stuff to a friend/recycling then ponder what to do with the new space. I'm thinking an arbour or bench and some nice shrubs ....
Tired, achey and a bit sunburned.

              GG

I am the same, and secretly quite pleased that rain is forecast for tomorrow as I am cream-crackered; I will be pottering in the greenhouse guilt free whilst it rains. I had 72 petunia seedlings delivered this afternoon, so they were put into trays for now - ironically, I bought them as mine were looking as though they were too small, and in the intervening period mine have taken a spurt and are now bigger than the ones that have just arrived; ho hum, such is life. In fairness to T&M though, all plugs seem to be healthy enough, and will almost certainly catch up in a week or two.

I have caught more sun than I should have over the past few days - my arms are a reddish brown shade, my neck is the same, and as I found out a short while ago when I had my bath, my legs have caught it today too - I thought I had got away with wearing my no dancing shorts, but the burning pain as soon as I got in the bath told me otherwise.

After yesterdays doldrums a bit of retail therapy was much needed..... Had some gardening vouchers to spend.... I'm sooo seriously now banned from the garden centre :roflol:I

What I went to the garden centre for, was a new pump to mend my stone water feature and some ant killer..... What I ended up with

The said pump and ant killer and.......

                  2 cumber plants
                  Beetroot plugs
                  salad onions
                  celery

(to replace the plants the ants have eaten in my greenhouse agahhh)

I also got two large fushia patios pots
                  A free wavy petunia

But I did buy hubby a pressie as well

We seen some Callistemon plants, which the flowers remind me of bottle washers... Hubby so wanted one but alas when I read how big they get, decided 2mx2m would be too large for the border... One disappointed hubby

But when we got around the corner they had Callistemon standards.... A tad pricey at £29.99 but it was a must have.... So one came home with us.

Which then meant after getting home, we had to pop out again to get a container for it, but did well a nice tall 40 cm tarricota pot for £15 can't be bad..

So once finally home.. Time to work on the garden, repot the Callistomen AKA Bottle plant, into it's new container. Then I decided that sort out the railway distance marker into a bench... so they now looking rather cool under the kitchen window, we raised them up on some of the path bricks we had left over... So just the right height for the bench......

Then I decided that the bit next to the gate that had rubbish needing to go down the tip, reall needed clearing and sorting another brain wave hit me...

I can make a little feature here, I've used a couple old patio slabs, and some of the spare path bricks, to make steps, on the top step now sits my stone water feature, and new fushias, on the bottom step sits a couple small pots that I had... My Calliastemon stands next to it...

I sweep and cleared the small patio next to the house, so this area now looks clear and tidy.. I finally sat down around 9pm...

Must admit my garden is looking good, even though I'm not completely happy with one bed, but the dogs keep tramping on it... So really need to think of a different planting arrangement here...

Just finished emptying 3 compost daleks and mixing and refilling them in a different spot. Looking promising considering they are in the shade and stay cool. So much free compost :)

Had to rip out a self seeded poppy, it was getting monstrous with little sign of flowering. This left me quite a large area to soil which I planted up with some annuals I had sown. Now need to find pace for all the other plants I had sown and don't have room for!

Yesterday was windy but we did get some sunshine here so I made the most of it with more sitting in the sunshine than anything else as I've bruised my big toe. Got some annuals planted up and did a bit of watering and weeding. I doubt I'll get much done today as it's been raining non stop since early this morning.

Rain...dry...more rain today. So, just some work in the conservatory on the tomatoes and I spotted my first Romo fruit.

Toms needed tying up, only 1 tom yet very small, but, in full flower. Repotted Dahlia cuttings, were 4 to a pot with plastic lemonade bottle cut in half acting as propagators, to larger pots. pause for breath. They should flower this year. The mother plants are doing well with some coming into flower.

I finished planting out all the annuals I've grown today. Oops! Have I misjudged! :doh:I need another three to four dozen plants. It's too late to grow any more so I'll be heading for my favourite nursery. :)

I also spent over an hour washing pots and trays.
