I don't mind it either Jenny but by the time I got round to it today it was raining so it was an undercover job. Blast! We have a cloud burst here at the moment, it's absolutely falling out of the sky.

Tonight I tackled some of the weeds growing round the side of the house. Talk about tree trunk stems. I had to use shears for several, and two of them nearly had me going for the folding saw. One of them had partially split some drain pipe, though not - I hope - in a place that could cause a problem. I won't let them get like that again. Straight on top of them from now on. The brown wheelie bin is almost full! I really want to make a start on something 'proper' (and fun) like a border, but I know I need to get some of this urgent maintenance stuff out of the way first. Boooo!

Other half and I spent a few hours rebuilding the garden arch. Just need to dig and concrete holes for 2 of the posts then add on the trellis. Happy!

Had a right good session sorting out the herbaceous bed today.

Last winter some beds in the garden at work were replanted, which meant that a lot of plants were dug out and replanted elsewhere. There was a certain amount of surplus material from the plants which weren't destined for replanting, so I 'rescued' some and potted them up at home.

Today I set about clearing some patches ready for the rescued plants, which are coming along nicely and were ready for planting out. Out came wallflowers, a knackered yucca, forget-me-nots and sundry other odds and ends.

In their place went irises, anaphalis, potentillas, salvias and thalictrums. It's created a few gaps here and there, but once the new plants get established and fill in, I'm sure it will look fine. A satisfactory day's work. :)

Planted 2 pots and 2 troughs for the front with begonia Santa Cruz and geraniums Washed all the pots and seed trays (around 300). Still got around 100 or so plants to get in so nearly there.
Fed the lawn and abit of weeding.
Got 2 fuchsias from morrisons for £1.33 to squeeze in somewhere

Dug out some flourishing scented Mint from around Rose "Crazy for You" as it was flourishing too much!!! Tied and trained around 20 to 30 Clematis to the Trellis Entrance as they seem to be growing several inches a day. Planted Asters, Cosmos, and Zinnia into a large pot after emptying it of Daffodils and put the Daffodils into trays to dry out. I'd left the edges of the lawn too long and had to get out the Petrol Strimmer to deal with cutting down the long tussocks of grass. Then I hunted around in the borders pulling out more Pink Campion which seems to have enjoyed the wet and warmth and still keep poking it's head among the perennials.:coffee::snork:

@ARMANDII - you might be able to help me actually; this year is the first I have grown cosmos, and at the moment I have some seedlings in the greenhouse that to me look a bit leggy (although they are sturdy) with a single stem and then a tuft of leaves above.

When I plant them out, how deep do I sink them, are they better planted in clumps/groups. and should I be pinching out somewhere along the line?

Hi FC, Cosmos do have a tendency to be leggy. All my Cosmos are seed grown and I plant them deep so that the foliage is about two inches above the compost. You could pinch them out at the top, but it's a bit late now, and it would delay the flowering and possibly make them bushier.:dunno::coffee::snork:

Mowed the lawns and planted out some sweet peas. Dead headed aquilegia and cut down the last of the tulip stalks

Planted up the two planters( the ones with the Pieris, London pride, see earlier pics) with petunias. Made up a half basket with Petunias, Lobelia, Busy Lizzies, Impatiens double Tom Thumb, and Pelargonium Merri Lovely.

Planted out into ceramic pots three miniature(table) fuchsias, Tom Thumb, Genii and Alice Hoffman.

Tomorrows a busy day.... Got six half baskets to do, three large troughs and the planters that the Acer, Salix and Rhododendron are in.

Still got about 100 Fuchsias, 10 ornamental Rice, 10 Impatiens, 20 Didiscus , a perennial Cornflower and 2 Heleniums to find places for.

I have the same problem with my Impatiens Tom Thumb, so what I've done is planted them deep so the seed leaves are about level with the ground/compost.

                              That looks fab, Trunky!

This evening I cleared the 'junkyard', aka the run of drive next to the appallingly overgrown hedge. Wheelie bins, scrap metal, breezeblocks, 7 large sacks of well-rotted manure (they're waiting for a border!), plastic tubs... I'm officially knackered. I'll do a run to the tip tomorrow with the genuine rubbish. While moving things, I met a spider that was approximately the size of a squirrel. Not one of my happiest gardening moments.

Tomorrow a guy is coming to trim the hedge. I've had an ear infection and it makes me dizzy. I don't fancy being in charge of hedge trimmers up a ladder! I'll do a before and after pic when he's been.

Glad for the sunshine today:SUNsmile: weeded between all the veggies and checked them out, my dwarf beans were flattened with the heavy rain yesterday so I encougrage them back to a standing up position. More weeding around the garden, 5 barrow loads, looked for a home for newly aquired lupins, checked my rose which is been nurtured and watched as its a bit sick, planted up 6 large troughs, hung 3 of them on to the wall, pampered with a new clamatus and encouraged its new growth into the trellis, cut some of the hedge, planted up 4 tubs and 2 cucumbers as realised the pots would be too small at the rate they are growing, hope this won't kill them off as they are my first try, watered and fed everything :spinning:
