What jobs are we doing in the Garden today 2015

It's not so much the Willow as me.
I can't do any digging, I already take 34 tablets a day, I think if I tried to get it out it would finish me off completely :(

I'm gonna post a "help" question in a minute.

 

Tied up a few tomatoes which are finally shooting up a bit. Got too many chilli seedlings so shoved a few in gaps between tomatoes, probably not worth it but I hate throwing anything away. Picked the first raspberries. Finished the last of the chard which has bolted. Need to get the leeks in soon

 

I'm sorry to hear you have health problems and you're wise not to attempt it. Could a relative or neighbour dig it out for you?

 

Sorry, no relatives only my mum, and the neighbours a 60 yr old woman.

 

You could try a local allotment group or gardening club and explain your needs, there is usually someone willing to help.

 

It's not only the digging out Sheal, but the length of the roots as well.
If it right that a trees roots echo the size of the canopy above ground, then they must go on all over the bed and probably under the driveways as well.

It's in a bed with a low Box hedge, a big Pieris and about fifteen Roses. We don't really want to disturb anything else, especially as the Roses are stunning this year.

Thanks for the suggestion though, that's good to know in case we need anything in the future. Especially about the garden clubs as we have a local branch of the Horticultural Society ( who I keep meaning to join and keep forgetting), we don't have any allotments though, they're now a housing estate :(

In most cases yes, the root spread is a 'reflection' of the canopy and probably more so with a willow. It does look like your only answer is to drill into the stump and poison it although it won't be a quick process. Good luck and let us know how you progress with it please.

You won't go far wrong joining your local Horticultural Society and there'll probably be plants and seeds to swap along the way too.

 

That lawn is looking the bees knees @fat controller! I wouldn't want to be the first weed that sticks it's head above ground.

Well that's no excuse ... push her out the door, tell her to bend down and get digging at those roots - she'll thank you when her energy levels have increased from the exercise

 

Picked off the little side shoots parts on my tomato plants (who seem to have grown by another third since Friday!).

Picked out some more bindweed.

Not much else as I'm trying to keep away from Triffid Stinkyarmous at the moment

 

Hi Shiney,

We're ( hopefully ) going to have an outside tap fitted in a couple if weeks. Don't know the procedure but my mums having a new sink unit etc fitted in the kitchen so we're going to ask them if they'll do it.
We've got a hose but it won't fit onto the tap :( She's got weird squarish ( that don't look right... Square - ish) shaped taps with only a very small downward pointed bit.
