Winter pansies are not just for winter (like 'a dog is not just for Christmas' :)). We decided that we would not lift them out of the hanging baskets this year after they had given us a good winter show. So we just planted around them, put the basket in the top of a pot, and they're still going strong. :dbgrtmb:

I know how you feel about the annuals Sheal, I put in a load of the old fashioned stuff ( Clarkia, Godetia, Candytuft, Larkspur etc) and we've got nothing. I reckon it was having a wet, cold spring followed by two months of no rain and temperatures the soared into the 90's.

That looks like such hard work!! Well done!

I feel positively lazy, in comparison.

I have a pile of wood, stems and leaves to sort, after the clear out of the top border, with hubby's help, yesterday. But we have lovely soft rain today, pretty much non stop. I'm not complaining, but not the best of days to work with cut stems and branches!

I did pot on my chillies, which were desperate, and they are now on the edge of the patio, soaking up the soft rain.

Yesterday, hubby and I made good progress on the top border....

            image.jpg
The scrubby rootstock growth (some 2" in diameter), at the base of the apple tree, has removed.

            image.jpg
The older rugosa rose stems / trunks have been removed. Not sure what to do with the younger stems...

            image.jpg

Lots of piles of word and stems to sort out. I did the apple stems this afternoon, but not looking forward to tackling the rugosa "prunings"!

Everyone looks so busy while I'm having an easy day. Been out and lifted the onions so they can sit in the baking heat for a few days and dry out. If it cools off later I might weed but then I might not. Still no rain and temperatures back up to 37 by Thursday.

Well today has brought rain, rain & rain. I've collected some paving slabs, bamboo canes & a gazebo from freecycle for the newly acquired allotment Been planning in my head how I want it to look - but forgot most of it by the time I'd had lunch...so tomorrow I'm going to draw a diagram - weather pants tomorrow too :-/ I have collected some beans to munch on, but thats it lol

I bought 3 of those dead-looking-dried-lumps from Wilkos in a sale a few months ago: Stella D'oro. Only one has shown any signs of life and I've been encouraging it to grow.
Today ... NUMBER TWO show signs of life :hapfeet: I've moved its position so I can keep an eye on it.
Really thrilled because they cost me a whopping £1.50 for the three!
Two out of three isn't bad ;)

I'll take one tomorrow (when it has stopped raining). They are not flowering, so nothing more than green shoots at this stage - but, it does mean they are ALIVE!
