Mostly watering, but I had to move the netting covering my barrel planters to allow the sweetcorn out into the open as they are getting too big for the netting! Supposedly called 'minipop' - - well, there ain't much mini about them!

Here they are still under netting:

        2015-07-14 18.27.39.jpg

And here they are now in the open:

Cauliflowers etc are still looking good:

And those lovely brugmansia cuttings from our @pete are coming on a treat! They will be ready to move on into big pots come the weekend

All that rain only soaked through about the top inch of soil......the weeds were laughing at me, as they were winning this round of the battle.

Watering and more watering. Got the timer and sprinklers set up for when I'm away for 2 weeks. Clean the pond filter and emptied it on the musas! So much to do before I go away :gaah:

Dead headed the roses and lupins then spent a couple of hours weeding and tidying the 'big' bed. I wish the rain would go away, the weeds are growing but the plants aren't flowering. Mine's been a colourless garden so far this summer.....apart from green.

I just spent about 2 hours, between the much-needed rain showers, cutting up the huge pile of prunings from the top border, done at the weekend. 4 trug-fulls of chopped prunings for the compost heap = result!

One row cleared - yes! Lifted the remaining early potatoes - in some places with a pick axe! Once this crazy heat wave passes I'm going to remove about 30cm, add manure to about the same depth and backfill - this will hopefully help improve my pathetic soil.

I've got most of the weeds up but still need to break up large clumps of rock like soil. Should have this completed by the end of the day.

That looks like backbreaking work. Your soil looks familiar. Very sandy?

@Sian in Belgium - it's more like dust but goes rock hard when dry. The upside is nothing ever gets waterlogged. Sun's blazing so don't think I'll get much done today and tomorrow's forecast is 38!

Enjoy making your feeding station woo, I'm sure it will be the bees knees (or, better yet, birds banquet).

Today I need to tackle some weeds in the front garden - little perishers have popped up from nowhere! :nonofinger: (How *dare* they! :heehee: )

Unpacked a rather lovely bracket - which I bought last year with this house in mind - so I'm hoping to find the right spot for that at the front of the house. Then it will just be a box ball hanger until I can find something better.
