What jobs are we doing in the Garden today 2015

Went to B&Q, found two plants in need of TLC, but do-able, reduced from £4 to £2. No staff on tills; used Self-Service till - both rang up at full price Abandoned them to the automated voice repeating: "Please put item on scales. Please put item on scales. Please put item on scales .... " and stopped off at Homebase instead.

Picked up trays of:-

• geraniums - 75p
• petunias - 75p (got 2)
• trailing geraniums - £1.50
• begonias - £1.50

Called it job done; drove to £stretcher and bought 2 troughs @ £2.99; passed B&M (newly opened) so thought it was worth a punt, bought: 5 black, tall, planters @ £2.99 each plus, two hanging brackets. Decided it really was time to drive home again ...

... planted up the trays of plants into the two troughs and put them on the basement windowsills. Put up the brackets and hung box balls (plastic, but still surviving all sorts of weather for 2 years and the move); put the 5 black planters on the patio and they now await planting Moved a couple of planters from the steps to the front garden and then moved a couple of planters from the basement floor to the step so I can get at the newly planted troughs/window boxes. Phase 1 complete

Phase 2 will be the purchasing of troughs/plants for the first floor windows - but, I'm waiting for members input on ideas for those in another thread before I take the plunge.

 

You've just reminded me that I bought 3 Clematis from our B&M the other day ( Jackmannii, Ville de Lyon and Hagley Hybrid ) and they're still in my mums porch.
Total cost..... 30p.

Yesterday was a shopping day!

So after a leisurely breakfast, christening the new seats under the cherry tree (sun in the morning, shade from 11.30 onwards = perfect!), and pruning back the hedge around the seats, so my neck wasn't being tickled, it was off to the shops.

Came back with some green fencing that we will use as trellising over the garage and kitchen windows. This way, the clematis tangutica and iceberg Rose will have something to grow onto; the drainpipe cover (jasmin officinalis and clematis ? henrii) to expand a little, and the Passion flower (setting fruit like nobody's business!) extra growing room. We also went to a small plant nursery, and came home with three hydrangeas, two lace-cap, and one more "normal". So today will be spent potting up the hydrangeas, and fixing the trellises ... rain permitting.

If it is of any comfort, we have been delighting in your beautiful poppies, and judging by the number of seeds I have upstairs, will soon be taking over Belgium with them!!
No, wait, can't do that, there aren't any!! (Around here, anyway!)

 

Thank you @Sian but although I'm disappointed it's a case of taking the bad years with the good. Let's hope I get a lovely display from the pansies.

I'm glad to hear they have done well for you but I have a confession to make.......my seeds originally came from Clueless1 (thank you Clueless1) who I think has probably supplied half the members here on GC.

 

Had friends for the weekend and they have just departed so back to my gardening

Yesterday had a lovely BBQ in beautiful sunshine .... so, Mr AB and our Portuguese friend decided that a tree which was part dead and leaning needed to come down.....oh how wise men become when they have had their first beer!!

So they got the ropes out, chopped some branches off, tied the tree to another tree so it would fall into the woods at the back......... bet you can all guess what happened next....








So jobs for the rest of today.... sort out the flattened area!

 

@Sheal, I've just read your post...... that's so sad the weather can be so cruel hope all your other plants are ok?

 

Stop off at a layby on the way to Beverley. Got Heuchera Shanghai, penstemon,Polaris purple, and Delphinium Magic fountains, Sky Blue. Then at Morrisons, I got another ivy (you can't have too many ivy, and Acer Palmatum Butterfly (for my son).

 

Today I pulled and strung some garlic and installed poultry netting around my garden tomatoes to keep the wildlife from taking a bite out of each tomato on the lower trusses.

 

Thanks @Apple Blossom. There's not a lot happening in my garden this summer, what hasn't been destroyed by the weather is pretty much still green. There's just a few flowers in bloom although my pink Cistus is putting on a good display at the moment. The tomatoes in the greenhouse are starting to colour up too, so at least I should get a crop of those.

 

I really feel for you, I use to live on the coast of North Wales and sometimes that use to get a battering so I know how you feel.

Funny you should mention tomatoes, I thought where mine where in the greenhouse they should have started to change colour some weeks ago, they are still green but just having given them a water I've noticed they are just now starting to change.

What colour is your Cistus, I've just taken a quick look on the internet, that looks like a lovely shrub?

 

Once you've eaten your own tomatoes Apple Blossom you'll never want to touch shop bought again.

I've had quite a busy day & haven't trimmed my bushes......I had a cuppa tea & a biscuit with my neighbour instead .
I went to the farm shop & bought a white agapanthus, white lavender, Daisey & a new rose, I know I'm not meant to be buying any roses now but at £3.75 I couldn't resist , I do like a bargain
My blooming self watering tomato pots aren't blinking working so when I got back my tomatoes were looking really sad, I've given them a good water & they've perked up....I used a couple of choice words in the greenhouse I hope no one heard! I was so cross though, I couldn't help it .
Hubby & I changed one of the flowerbeds last night I've given that a good water & planted it up with my new plants.
The hens have had a clean out & their drinkers have had a good scrub.
Hubby put up my weathervane at long last .
All in all I've done a lot today, not as much gardening as I'd of liked but had to do house chores, grocery shop & paperwork, it's great to be catching up with jobs though.
I'm calling it a day now I'm tired
