What jobs are we doing in the Garden today 2015

I have a young fig tree, with smallish green figs (alas not visited by the fig wasp - so far - that pollinates them and turns them into ripened fruit). I had to get up on my ladder to clear some obstructions of light, i.e. from the japanese knotweed from next door (she is not a gardener and probably doesn't even know she has this plant), also her overhanging large bramble arch. At least the figs are now more exposed to the sunlight, so .....where are those pesky fig wasps?

 

Yesterday i planted out two periwinkles in the front garden and removed some of the weeds. To be honest mainly aquilegias. They are lovely but just not in the hygrangea bed

Today is a rest day so will be doing nothing apart from opening and closing the greenhouse and maybe eating a few hundreds and thousands tomatoes.

 

Well it's Spider Central in the garden now. They're spinning their webs all over the place. At least the spiders are quite small at the moment. Come September/October they'll be huge and I'll be too scared to move. I'll go outside first thing in the morning and get a face full of spiders web as I walk down the side passage of the house .

Anyway just done some deadheading and tidying plus a bit of watering.

 

Take a stick with you to beat your way through!

I have just cleared all of the lattice top, to my fence, for cobwebs. There were lots of them there but I made short work of it with a wetted stick (so that the webs would adhere to it).The webs were so fine that I don't imagine the spider would be at all big.

I conquered my fear of spiders overnight. I was staying at a country cottage and my bed for the night had a huge spider, high up on the ceiling, directly over my bed (near the pillow end too!) I had to come to terms with it then and there since I knew I could not move the bed and did not want to create a fuss as a guest. I reasoned with myself....

- What was I afraid of? That the spider would crawl over me.

- Likelihood of that happening? Very low

- Has it ever happened? No!

Done!! Reason overcame irrationality. Got over it then and there.

 

@rosebay ...I know what you mean! I really need to make friends with them. Maybe I'll bite the bullet and let one crawl on me. YUK!

 

Just some everyday last few days plus lawn care, found this little fella who seems to have taken up residence in my parsley pot.

 

Are you sure you haven't moved house @fat controller ? Your garden looks a real picture now, what a difference you've made.

 

It's certainly been worth all your effort, you have a right to be proud of it.

 

Spent an hour or so watering and deadheading. Quite pleased with the main border this year, should be even better next year once the new roses have established.

@fat controller - your garden is looking really nice and the lawn it a great success, you must be chuffed.
