What jobs are we doing in the Garden today 2015

Too right!

 

Still not much better, but I had to get out in the sunshine today. Did loads of weeding, especially the back flowerbed (which was new last year) as the nettles and wood aven were taking over. I'm much happier with it despite the fact my delphiniums and centaurea have mostly disappeared? Bit early for them to have died back no?

Also tidied the raised bed and planted a Cyclamen there which was a present from a work colleague. I did spot a young astrantia which has self seeded which cheered me up.
Husband cut back neighbours conifer which had crossed our fence, mowed the lawn and put autumn treatment on it.
All looking ok though I am not sure why my dahlias are so rubbish this year, plus don't know what to do with another area we have cleared now. Might post a thread asking for advice tomorrow...

Although the sunshine is welcome we tend to forget the overnight temperatures have dropped and it's probably these that are seeing off many plants at the moment.

 

Hopefully they will return next year, first season ive had them and I grew them to a good size before planting out.

Yesterday I spent a few hours clearing away more plants until my back gave way. I've done about a quarter of the garden now. The worse bit is emptying the containers of compost. We've now got quite a few bags of it to get rid of. Hopefully I can carry on and get a bit more done as the forecast is for sunny weather.

 

Cut the grass and tidy the borders

 

Glorious day here got to lend a hand to hubby then a very quick grocery shop, prehaps a nip into the garden centre then gardening & hen poo picking in the new girls coop! I'd forgotten how much new hens poo but I can't have the coop all yucky so I've been poo picking everyday.

 

Young hens are just like poop machines @shiney , as they get older they do less poops but they are bigger & easier to clear up, I use a paint scraper to scoop it up & throw it onto the flowerbeds or put it in the composter! Nice bit of manure for the plants!
I had a hen who pooped on the back door step most days , as much as I told her 'you don't poop on your own doorstep' she still carried on!

 

After having help cutting the grass yesterday (hubby came out to give me a hug, when I was just over half-way through, took one look at me, and took over!) today I was able to do a much more pleasurable potter. Finished linking the new gravel path around the "back" of the house, topped up the fish barrel, cleaned out and refilled the two bird baths, weeded the island bed, and the angle bed, cut back the mint, and weeded a little of the grass...

Now enjoying some early evening sunshine, with a glass of white wine, and some homemade marrow chutney as a dip, with sliced pita bread.

 

I decided to pressure wash the patio ready for the winter, I was a lil lazy earlier this year and didn't get around to it. I started cutting back in the garden, but a phone call inviting me for a few cheeky pints of Guinness in the beer garden seemed to take a much greater priority.
