Oh my days, so glad there are none here! My mother would have a fit even if a bird shat in her tub..I read somewhere they were pretty bad for going through rubbish and digging but attics and hottubs! Crazy. Think the worst animals around here are either the foxes and thats only for crying or herons for eating fish out of peoples ponds! I like the bb tactic that's great!

I got to spend a couple of hours outside today, enjoying some of the start of autumn here.

I also finally got around to taking some cuttings for overwintering inside.

I use one of these rolly things to pick up crab apples. No stooping. It kinda looks like a whisk on a stick but does a fantastic job. Might save your back. It is the blue handled thingie leaning against the shed. 2015-10-10 12.09.57.jpg

Is it the one with the blue handle? That would work with the quinces they are bigger than the head i reckon. Also they arnt falling on flat ground they falling on my water feature into alpine plants. There are only a few now and then as the tree is in nextdoors garden so its not a major job

Thank you for thr thought tho

Started ground work for the raised beds, my drainage is terrible so ive started to remove the sod and put to one side, then im going to turn the soil about 1 spade length and mix in sharp sand to help with the horrible soil, put the soil to one side, then add the sod and fill in with soil mixed with sharp sand, from which then my raised beds will be built on, will be adding chicken wire to the bottom of the beds along with weed control fabric, only removed less than half the sod of the area for my raised, loving the work tho :)

                SOD removed
                Edit>
Soil turned.... about 1/3'rd the area of my raised beds, thats enough for today i think :)

Some while ago I bought a metal climber frame to replace the telegraph pole that was removed from my flower bed. My other half put it together for me yesterday and it's huge so I've abandoned that idea and will now buy an obelisk instead. I'm not to get the Clematis back in the bed!

I've spread a lot of used compost onto the tiered bed today and moved a small Hebe that was outgrowing it's spot. I've also moved a couple of Lupins to another area and finally planted 100 winter Pansies that there was no room for in pots. Let's just say germination was a little more than expected. They should bring some colour to the bed this winter though. :)

I failed again to take the Lavender cuttings that I've been promising myself to do for over a week. That's a definite for tomorrow. :)

@Tingting44 there's an old method of making the soil less sticky. This time of year is a bit late to find it for nothing :noidea:. It's to dig in, fairly deep, some straw (I don't know if there's any left on the fields after harvesting) as it stops the soil from clogging together so much.

It works especially well on very clayey soil.

I should be moving compost and manure (to mulch fruit bushes and top up veg bed), tidying away plant stakes, putting tied bundles of hedge-clippings out four collection by council tomorrow, raking up leaves, pulling up nettles, planting bulbs....

...but instead I'm sitting here with a cuppa - someone's stolen my energy!!

Yesterday we did a bit more work on the fruit cage, there's rumour of a fox in the area so the hens are in there at the moment, I'm sure it's not 100% fox proof yet but we are making progress. I finished clearing the runner bean & French bean beds, with a lot of 'help' from the hens!!! Had a tidy in the shed to make way for two bails of straw for the hens! Looks like a complete tip in there now!! Cleaned the Bbq & put the cover on. The garden is looking really dull now, winter is certainly on its way. Next weekend I have to finish putting the bulbs in & plant up two lavenders in my new flower bed, that's something nice to look forward to :blue thumb:

Well, I got the new (IE 3 years or younger) fruit trees and bushes mulched, before going for the 2nd dog-walk of the day. Now I need to get a wheelbarrow-full of weeds onto the filling compost, close up the using compost bin, and a barrow full of manure/compost up to the veg bed, and I think I'll call it a day outside, and do some gentle ironing instead!

When I get back from my driving lesson I have a lot of pots to scrub with soap and bleach. It's a sunny and breezy day that will help the pots dry quickly and to be stowed down in the cellar on top of the 12 bags of new potting soil purchased for next year.

Restringing the electric poly wire to have them line up horizontally instead of vertically. Grandson will be drilling the pilot holes for our home made brackets and I will be installing. This goes around the perimeter of the fence to discourage raccoons from visiting. Not harmful to anything just give a jolt.

Then going to sit out there with a cuppa and some of my pumpkin snickerdoodles and enjoy the sun.

Today, replanted the cherry tree @Sheal sorry to pester, is that far enough above ground? 20151012_132519.jpg

Put in the pieris too, it's very small. Gave everything a good feed, mowed the grass, done another layered pot with left over bulbs, then decided to stick some in the ground round the front. Wrapped the begonias and dahlia I lifted the other day, finally pulled my glad up too. Stuck some sweetpeas in the ground where they grew this year to try them over autumn and took some pics of my shed for another thread :blue thumb:
