Yes, I get rid of the bugs and their eggs, then amend the soil with eggshells and whatever I have on hand. Potting soil is fairly expensive and I keep getting more and more pots, so I try to cut down purchases by doing this.

It's handy having the facilities to be able to do that. :)

It's one of those baker/smokers. I use a cheap tin roaster pan to do this. It is never used for food. This is the outdoor wood ove 2015-07-07 09.20.34.jpg

I've just been out in the garden and picked 25 Cobaea Scandens seed pods. This was the first year that we have grown them and they were superb. I'll have to read up on what to do with the seed pods to get the seeds to mature

        Any ideas? :)

I just looked up a picture of those and they are gorgeous! Unfortunately the site I visited didn't have info about how to collect seed.

This year is so different for me. I'm usually just putting things away for the winter but today I was potting up my baked soil to be ready when the K onions are ready to transplant. One day emptying pots, the next filling.... the sorcerer's apprentice...:thud:

They're a very fast growing annual. Each plant covered more than a 6ft x 6ft fence panel.

              Hi Shiney,

They're actually a half hardy perennial. Prune them back and keep above 5 deg and they'll flower earlier next year.

If you prune them back they may start again next year (not tried it yet). A super large climber some shoots on mine must be nearly 20 feet long . I grew the white this year , very pretty but does not stand out like the purple one . Very nice late season flowerer.

I've tried telling the garden not to drop below 5 degrees but I don't think it's listening to me.

Mowed the lawn this afternoon, still getting some growth due to the mild weather.

The mild weather also means my winter salad leaf plants in the greenhouse are romping away, unfortunately the Tatsoi plants have become infested with greenfly, so I've sprayed them with liquid derris (for the third time). We need a good cold snap!

I cosmetically ruined a polycarbonate panel on the larger of my greenhouses so went to the company who provides replacement parts. Decided to try this panel on the smaller greenhouse that presently has twin wall panels, just to see how it looks. Now I think I want to replace all of the twin wall panels in my smaller greenhouse with these polycarbonate ones. If they do sell them to me, I'll be taking that structure apart.. :thud:

On the way home I stopped at a bakery wholesale supplier and got a really great scoop to use when filling pots with soil. Much handier than an old coffee mug. Got home and OH informs me that one of those would be perfect for scooping grout...guess I'll be going back

Going out to play with my new scoop. The sun is shining and I'm grabbing some of that free vitamen D!:)

Just done an hour and a half of mowing. It was hard going :phew: as the grass had grown so long - but it looks good :blue thumb:

I noticed that the exochordas have flower buds on them :hate-shocked:

Owcho has got a new winter home now, thought it better for him to be in Thomas Hardy's "intineranant's room than in an unheated greenhouse :)

I guess that the yellow cable is the heating cable. If so, it would be much more efficient if it was buried in a layer of sand/gravel and would also look better.
