What jobs are we doing in the Garden today 2015

For some strange reason my bonfire caught light........again!!
While it was going i trim our Berberis hedge, Smoking............

 

Shiney and Harry......I take your point about leaving the pole in, but I consider it an eyesore and I can't see the plants behind it from my bungalow. It will also be one thing less to worry about as the mains sewer inspection shaft is in that bed too, underneath the blue pot to the right.

Thanks Harry. After the work is completed I'm hoping to get a better display from it this year, I wasn't happy with what I planted last year, it looked dull.

 

lots of ideas Sheal from the members I think it will easier than you think , to get it shifted , cracker bed Sheal and I have the same yew in my front garden but so slow growing.

 

very nice , I think circles work really well I like the way it carries around into the patio

 

Well I've had my most productive day so far this year today. The weather was mostly lovely and sunny bar 2 short rain showers.
Managed to get 2 small roses moved and a container one planted with them. I've planted them quite close to eachother as they are all small so think they will be ok.
Also moved 3 fuchsias (one snowcap and 2 Sarah delta) as they got crowded out by dahlias last year so didn't flower well.
Did tons of weeding (still so much wood aven about) and got rid of the last bits of dead stuff on the perennials, everything looks so much tidier now.
Planted out 4 geums in what will be one of 2 hot beds. One will have more of a jewel theme with purples too.
Dug up some pale pink phlox for a friend.
Planted out some irises which I started in pots just after Christmas. (Ground was frozen)
Did lots of mulching and potted up a couple of perennials I got from Aldi for 99p each.
Watered anything that is newly planted! Not taking any chances as I didn't do this enough last year.
Tidied up the greenhouse a bit more, a fair few things are springing to life in there which I'm really happy about.
Generally gave all the borders a gentle rake over (being careful of bulbs!) as the soil needs to be fine for direct sowing next month.

More re-potting for me (as I have a container garden). My Robinia (Lace Lady) and Red Twisted Hazel are both in their permanent large pots now, with plenty of room for growth, and with daffodil bulbs planted in the corners (square pots). I also put some of my ornamental grasses and sedges into their 'bog-garden' - it isn't quite a pond, as I needed quite a bit of compost to prevent them from tipping over.
The new pots are so huge and heavy that this turned out to be quite a big job, and used up all my compost, so I've just done the biggest ones for now. Still plenty of plants that need to go into larger containers before the growing season. If it's nice tomorrow, hopefully I'll set them out, ready for re-potting and work out which plants to put into which pots. I should be able to work out how much more compost I'll need from that.

 

We took down our old trampoline in readiness for chickens and a coop which will be coming home in a couple of weeks. I also set up cane wigwams for broad bean seedlings which I planted out today. I also made a polytunnelesque wigwam for tomato seedlings.
That and a bit of general clearing up. Tomorrow will be more of the same!

 

Sowed seeds: Tomatoes x 4 varieties; chillis; cucumber (female) - finally fixed the greenhouse properly, well apart from the door, which is another day! And got my module grown garlic in the ground. Tomorrow is another day and lots to do.

 

Well after all my big talk about cleaning the path with my new hose etc a couple of days ago, the new hose still hasn't arrived. So the path is still a mud chute and it is very easy to do the splits out there if you're not paying attention. This is both dangerous and ungainly as I have almost found to my cost on more than one occasion this week!

 

Look on the bright side the longer it takes to arrive the better gymnast you become

 

Thanks Spruce. My Yew has grown about a foot a year for comparison and I believe 6 to 8ft will be it's final height.

 

Gave my veg patch a tidy up ,shuffled some plants around and sowed some mixed salad leaves in the GH

 

I cleaned most of the house & popped into work. Hubby finished cleaning the patio it's looking great now.
I bought my hens some maggots from the fishing shop....well Nora's having a moult so I thought te protein would do her good!

Tomorrow I have the food shopping & ironing to do but most importantly I'm going to do some gardening ​

 

@Beckie76 ...Cor I bet the chooks loved the maggots Mine were scoffing Meal worms in between scarifying the lawn
