Cold frame broke again the tape didnt last long

I have now glued it so keep your fingers crossed. Not well enough to do anymore in the garden today unfortunately

 

We had a lovely weekend on the south coast which meant we were able to get a lot of work done in the garden. The front garden was cleared of weeds, I moved a Heather plant, pulled out an old lavender plant, put in a couple of aquilegia's, some pinks, some violas and something else I can't remember the name of! (It's purple and gorgeous! Can you tell I'm new to this?!) I made of a couple of pots for the front door with some small daffodils and some violas.

In the front bit of our back garden I weeded the flower bed and manured the roses. I pruned the flamigo salix and some lavender I have in pots. I also put in a red long leafed grass and an interesting looking plant with rainbow colours. Like I say, I'm pretty rubbish with the names of plants, I tend to buy them if I like the look of them.

Our new greenhouse arrives on tomorrow and I'm excited to put it up so that I can start sowing some seeds. I haven't decided what kind of flowers I'm going to grow yet, but I will be growing plent of tomatos chillis in there. I don't finish work until six in the vening, so until the clocks go forward I'm limited to weekend gardening only unfortuantely.

Bird feeders have been refilled, and the dog-poop scooped (tasks that have to be done each week, at least, but take time)
I've removed all the fallen leaves, and the start of some algae, from the barrel water feature, with the help of Izzy (well, she was trying to remove the fish - strange dog!). The hazel logs have now been taken down to the log-store. Two barrow-loads of compost brought up to the raised veg bed. Two more rotten door partitions of the compost bins removed. Some of the reclaimed bricks have been placed around the edge of the island bed (not an easy task, as the bricks need to be cleaned of mortar, and fitted like a jigsaw to make the curvey edge, so I find my brain gets tired after about an hour - but it's about 2/3 done). Stray yellow crocuses have been moved to fill in the gap in the circle around the Kilmarnock willow. A bronze fennel seedling lifted and potted up - what a tap-root!!
Finally, about 20-odd dandelions have been dug out of the lawn. Time for a cuppa :-)

 

Too soggy to go up the allotment today, but this morning was spent duct taping my greenhouse in the vain hope that it won't collapse again! God damn plastic piece of crap...

 

Due to my landie's collar coming off on the drive/prop shaft, meant I couldn't get into work, I had a day off..

So after a long morning sulking about the car, I decided to get some seeds planted up, which now I have 2 unheated propagators sat on a picnic table in front of my south facing patio, fingers cross they will germinate.

I then checked my plants in the greenhouse, first year I've had my greenhouse so no heating, and naivety abound... A case of put my palm, cordi's, several other tubs, and fushia cutting that I took from MIL, water several times over the winter so the compost didn't dry out, and not enough that if it went below freezing the compost wouldn't become an ice cube!

Very pleased, I lost one germanium (not fussed) I have quite a few fushia's, both plants and cuttings, and only lost one, all are starting to sprout new leaves, so really chuffed about this.

I had planned to go down the dump today, then out to the allotment, but alas the garage can't look at my car until tomorrow I so hope they can fix it tomorrow, the only silver cloud is that the landie is still under warranty, so not my bill phew

 

Didn't do much outside today as the weather has been awful. Had a wander around and checked everything when there was a break in the rain. Lots more iris are flowering as are a few tete a tete daffs. Checked the prop god knows how many times to see if anything else had germinated. Browsed the net, saw a few nice containers for sale but managed to restrain myself.

 

I'm getting ready for part time working (next week wahoo ). Weeded 'spring bulb' corner - took a couple of hours as it was those really small, young weeds. Couple of miniature daffs are out. Also dug over some heavy clay soil behind the arbour, mixed with compost and planted some Summer bulbs - gladioli, ranunculus and some others. Next week the garden won't know what's hit it

 

Managed to finish off my Sweet Peas abd do 8 modular trays of sunflowers this afternoon which I've just worked out is 192 plants if they all germinate! I think I'll be giving most of those away but there's a few multi flowered varieties and also some Dwarf ones

It's been nice weatherwise today so I did a bit of pottering. Top dressed some more of my containers. Cut back more dead growth and rearranged some pots so they were getting more sun. Saw my first butterfly of the year on a miniature iris but by the time I'd got my camera it had gone. Whipped out some of my seeds from the prop as they've germinated.

 

Opened up the GH and propagators did a bit of misting,now wrapped everything up again,going to get chilly here tonight..

 

Just had time to open the greenhouse for 10 minutes and do a wander/check of the garden. Lots of things growing away now, going to have a lot of potting on to do at the weekend.

 

Nothing that demanding or very exciting....bought some hanging basket plug plants e.g. lupins (!?) and fuschias so been seeing to them. I didn't scrutinise the size of the lupins (when fully formed) i.e. on the label but, when I got it home, was surprised to read it can be 2 foot across! That seems bigger than most hanging baskets I am familiar with. Oh well, hope it will do in the basket I have allotted for it (not quite on that scale)!
