What jobs are we doing in the Garden today 2015

I went for the minimum planting distance for an instant 'ish' hedge.Depending on the new growth I won't do any trimming while Derby Day at the earliest

 

Sprinkled a few Virginia stock seeds on the soil of the spring bulb tubs. Soaking a few more convolvulus major for planting tomorrow I'll do another planting of those in another week or so.

 

Hi all, sounds like everyone's been really busy over the weekend.
The wind was certainly cold but I managed to get a lot of jobs done, hubby cleared out all the broken pots from behind my shed & cleaned the patio & hard standing at the back of the shed, he pressure washed my shed & all the fences. My greenhouse has had a really good scrub out & that is looking good. My peas are in & next section of the plot is ready for more sowing. I raked the drive & weeded as much of that as I could ( that's an endless task!) I weeded the front flowerbed & edged/ weeded another.
Hubby took me to two garden centres one which had been really good in the past was terribly over priced & the plants were really disappointing, the second however was great, gorgeous plants & all at reasonable prices & the staff were so helpful. I bought two roses, one for the front garden & one for the back. I shall certainly go back there for another look once everything starts to grow & I know where I have space!
I now need a warm still dry day next weekend so I can get those fences painted...anyone fancy a sun-dance!!

 

I only spent about an hour in the garden this weekend and msot of that was spent fixing the damage the badgers did to my front garden! I filled in the holes and re-planted everything the dug up, mixing in a bit or hair as I went. I really need to do a bit of research and find away to keep them at bay more permanently.

I put a couple of hollyhocks in the back garden, which should give some nice colour around my camelia in the summer. I bought some delphiniums too, then couldn't decide where to plant them, so I decided to hang on until my mind was made up!

This weekend I'm planning to plant some bulbs in a couple of containers as well as in the flower bed in the back garden, to give it some height. Hoepfully, the glass will be in the greenhouse by the weekend and I can plant lots and lots of seeds!

I can't wait for the light to last a bit longer, then i can get into the garden in the evenings too instead of having to wait until the weekend.

 

Nothing again :-( i was too sick all weekend and now its tipping it down *sigh*

Ah thanx beckie. Im long term sick so nothing new. Its just frustrating when you want to get stuff done but then my flare up was my own fault as i had done too much and not rested enough

Everyone loves badgers and everyone loves hedgehogs right ?

But how many people know that badgers eat hedgehogs and thats the main reason you hardyly see any hedgehogs around now instead I come across dead badgers at the sides of the roads nearly daily.

Its such a shame one species is allowed to grow rapidly at the expense of another species.Save both. All imho of course.

I sowed the last of my seeds today barring failures. I've also taken a couple of dozen Lavender 'Bush Baby' cuttings to eventually under plant my roses and cut down on the weeding.

 

Do you have a specific time for planting your failures then @Sheal ?

 

Now you know what I meant "M"! Surprisingly and I'm tempting fate here, I very rarely have seed failures. I have discovered today though that Echinacea 'Purpurea' needs cold stratification. Oops! It didn't say that on the packet, I'll shove 'em in the fridge tomorrow. It's the first time I've attempted to grow them and wondered why they were taking a long time to germinate!

 

Sowed a few dahlias, scabious (third attempt- they just don't germinate/I'm impatient, going to leave them 40 days this time) tomatoes (moneymaker) and California peppers.
My friend sending my pictures of her veg seedlings changed my mind!
