What jobs are we doing in the Garden today 2015

I hope you are right. We dont know how old these ones are though the neighbours said they were there when they bought their house and i just checked on zoopla and that was 15 years ago so they are older than that.

 

Shiney, that's what I like about this site...others bring a different perspective of looking at things. Sometimes you can't see the wood for the trees ( no pun intended) lol

 

Dips...the buds look really healthy, I reckon they will be fine.
I popped out earlier to check mine and it has new buds...so I reckon it deserves to stay, despite me hacking it to the ground last autumn.....I think it's around 8yrs old. My oldest one in the front garden was planted in 1998 when I moved in here....it's got new buds, so think it wants to stay

 

Fern, I had mine in the propagator for nearly three weeks and wondered why they weren't germinating. With no instructions on the packet I googled them and discovered they need cold stratification, they're now in the fridge!

Despite coming to the end of my 2nd year at college, I know for a fact that the good people here know way more than I do. The old ways are the best ways.....you are bogged down too much in colleges as it's all about Health and Safety and the latest way of doing things.

The gardeners of old never set foot in colleges, they couldn't afford to for a start and anyway, you learn best by DOING, and trial and error. Have fun

 

It's a bit like learning to drive Vinca. An instructor will teach us how to manoeuvre a car but we learn how to drive on the roads after passing our driving test.

 

Many thanks for all comments and ID on the plants , the planters look a lot brighter now, I just need to decide what to put in them, some sort of creepers will have to go to the back of them, and some flowers to the front maybe , I will have to paint the gnome up he doesn't look right all white .

 

I'll give them a bit longer and if there's no sign of them I'll try the fridge.

 

I didn't do much gardening yesterday apart from tidying up the crocus flowers. They were looking really sad so I did a bit of dead heading. Noticed a few weeny slugs and snails . Looks like the battle is about to commence.

 

Looks like Bergenia to me, or Elephants ears!

Hi All

its been so sunny all day

All borders have had a feed of growmore and blood fish and bone and general hoeing just to work it in a tad, same with the wildlife hedge at the back of the garden River side , I think I will have to cut down/hard prune all the roga rugosa in the Autumn just to give the holly blackthorn and hawthorn some more space and light, its all coming on a treat.

 

Well, after yesterday finishing up topping up the veg bed with compost, today I showed my first seeds.... Not much, just a 6" length of lettuce seed tape, but it felt gooood! (I plan to sow a short length every 5 days or so, alternating between the 3 different types, so they don't all come at once).
I also raked up some more leaves that have blown in from neighbouring gardens, but you have to be careful of how you go..

Oh, just remembered....
I also had to replant my wood anemone that I'd put in a couple of weeks ago. Now all three plant-lets have been pushed out by one of my tunnelling moles. Should I put them back in, and firm the ground down again, or try to find a place with more tree-roots, so mole-y can't get in?
