First cut of the lawn today. Added a lot of organic matter to this years pea and bean bed. Going to sow my broad beans over the weekend. Then I waited for my son to come home and we have planted potatoes in 5 bags, I have 4 seed potatoes left. Should I put them in one of my raised beds. If do which one, roots, brassicas or legumes. . Cleaned out the chooks and then did a bit if weeding.

Well the sun got off to a slow start here, it looked like something was blocking it :biggrin:, but it brightened up a little later :),

I managed to get all the fence post painted and my wife sorted the gnome out with a coat of paint :), she is working on water mill now :).

Well, if you're going to stratify them they'll need to be in the Fridge for around 6 weeks. To be honest, I don't think they are a plant that needs the seeds to be stratified in order to induce them into life.:dunno: Here's some text book advice though...

          Sowing:
Sow seeds in late winter to spring or in late summer to autumn. Echinacea will flower in 11 to 15 weeks so if started indoors early enough, it is possible to get flowers in the first season.

          Sowing Indoors:
Sow at 20 to 24°C (68 to 75°F), Fill pots or trays with a good seed starting mix (John Innes or similar). Moisten by standing the pots in water, then drain.
Surface sow the seed and press lightly into the soil. Seeds need light to germinate, so do not cover the seeds or use only a light sprinkling of vermiculite. The compost should be kept moist but not wet at all times. Germination may start after only 5 days but may take up to 20 days. Prick out each seedling as it becomes large enough to handle, transplant into 7.5cm (3in) pots or trays to grow on. Plant out in spring into well drained soil. Gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions for 10 to 15 days before planting out.
In their natural environment, the seeds would germinate after a period of cold, so if there is little or no germination move the tray to a cold area: at around 4°C (39°F) for 2 to 4 weeks. Once you have picked out the remaining seedlings place the tray outdoors in a sheltered area for the winter. Come back to it in spring, more seedlings may await!

As I said earlier, I have never treated them any different to my other "normal" seeds. I do stratify some seeds in the fridge but only one or three varieties.:coffee:

@ARMANDII ......thanks for that info. I know what I've done wrong now. I covered the seeds and they need light to germinate. I'll sow some more but leave them uncovered!

Today I'm going to pick up some quality seed compost for my Super 7 prop as recommended by you. Then hopefully get the compost warm and sow them up this evening.

If possible get to the allotment with the family and plant our broad beans and Charlotte seed potatoes :)

Funtastic news! :yay: Hope the whole process goes without hitch for you (we secured this one in April '14 but didn't get to exchange until mid August - and that was without any chain! Luckily, I wasn't taking too, too many plants with me and I managed to keep them alive :phew: ) Fingers crossed for you :fingers crossed:

Was up bright and early so sowed my toms and some Echinacea covered with a bit of vermiculite. Hopefully they'll now germinate. :fingers crossed: Out in the garden planted Aubretia and Forget-me-nots. Topped up the soil levels on the spuds in containers. Decided to feed my Pieris, Erica carnea and Skimmia. Moved some crocus and dwarf iris in small pots and replaced them with other pots containing daffodils which are just coming into flower. Did a bit of weeding and general tidying.

Today, all we have done is inspected the fruit trees, that have lovely swelling flower-buds, had words with the solitary bullfinch to "move along, please", and replanted one of the wood anemones again, after another visit from Mr Mole.

Then it was walking the dogs, and RUGBY!!!

done a lot of heavy stuff today , Paulownia now reduced to 3 feet or 1 meter thanks @Sheal

Taken out a 25 ft cotoneaster cornubia I hate doing this but I get it wrong at times and I just dint think it would go so huge plus it was originally the back of the fence before I moved the fence further down , it was also covered in Montana and wisteria so had to untangle all the mess , had to use the ladder but cut it down into sections , its let so much light in and will also give the Robinia pseudoacai more space to grow , also gave the holly madame briot a hair cut at the top as its going leggy and sparse up the stem so hopefully that will help it bush out a little ?? time will tell but doesnt look like I have cut out the top which thats what I wanted.

Begonia tubers all soaked in warm water , and all have been individually planted in pots just a wee bit bigger than the tuber and are now in the propagator at 65 f or 18c , used levingtons compost !! I will add my thought to the compost thread.

I was going to start planting seeds today but that will have to wait till Sunday
