What jobs are we doing in the Garden today 2015

success, actually raked out my big
Perennial bed . Looking good, lots of little bulbs coming to life, and my snowdrops blooming nicely. And no snow in the near future.

 

Two new bird boxes up. Simple.

 

My black dog is giving me grief at the moment, but managed 45 minutes or so of weeding and starting to put down mulchy stuff down on my raspberry patch up at the allotment.

Do you get many birds around your garden? Sometimes I find that sitting outside with a cuppa, and listening to the birds helps the black dog find someone else to annoy for a bit.

 

Managed to help Steve replace the plastic covered greenhouse that had gone home over the winter. The new one is not going to last as long as the old one I don't think.

 

There's quite a lot of birds including birds of prey in nearby large trees. It's lovely listening to them. I have a bird table and feeder, but the table keeps falling over. Going to have to bury the bottom into the ground I think.

 

Just being outdoors in the fresh air and dibbling a bit with this and that is such a help! And yes, sian is right about taking time to watch and listen to the birds and any other wildlife that's around. That does it for me, just watching a bee or a hover fly or one of those crab spiders on a flower.

 

Today I've planted four Eleagnus ebbingei to continue my wind break. These will be doing a good job sheltering my new small tunnel. Have also put Sorbaria sorbifolia and Persicarea polymorpha in the chicken run. I'm hoping both will be curbed by the hens

Also planted Buddleia relative Gomphostigma virgatum. I'd never heard of this before coming across it in a local nursery. I'm a sucker for anything scented....

Am now pooped, but have cut a load of green branches off one of my variegated Euonymus japonicus, to make cuttings for free hedging, so will now make a start on that little project

 

A few more hours wrestling with planks and compost!



The bottom pannel is done (well, I ran out of screws, and drill-bits - I guess this seasoned wood will take a few years to rot!!), the retaining posts front and back are in, and the loose boards front and back are sorted.

Just need to finish emptying the "adding" pile now, so I can get the dividing pallets in place....

 

Some good progress made on my Pergola and decking yesterday. Bit annoyed that I cut the main horizontal for the Pergola too short, another trip to B&Q this weekend

It looks really tall but it's not really, my garden slopes away and have levelled it off. Hence Pergola had to be taken down and rebuilt at the right level.

Just want it finished now so I can enjoy actual gardening!

Long and totally crap day at work so I just had time to wander, open the greenhouse for 10 mins and smell the edgeworthia before it got dark. Meh!

 

Done it Well almost...still got another 40 Tulips to plant but gave up after getting a whopping blister on the palm of my hand
