What jobs are we doing in the Garden today 2015

still raking leaves.

 

I do all that for seed sowing which is one of the main reasons I'm using the baggie method wherever possible.
There are certain plants (ie; borderline hardy or just known to be downright fussy) where I do it as well apart from the microwave bit..

 

Shineyland must have a direct line to the man upstairs then In that case I'll send you my Tacca seeds to germinate for me
Thankfully I'm blessed with patience - this Ferraria seed germinated after eighteen months............

 

Not quite..................

We had one move into our flat in Sydney not long after we moved in. It was like a dog and would follow you around the flat!

 

Nothing getting done today as its pouring it down here..Forecast is better for tomorrow so gonna get cracking then...

I'm planning to get my waterproofs on (snorkel as well, if necessary!) and get some sorting out done today. I want to finish the compost bins (need to put a divider in, and finish the ends of the lower boards).

I've also got lots of summer bulbs to plant up - I might put them in the pots around my climbing roses, as they will have to spend a year in pots, whilst I decide where to put them....

Lolimac - I just read here that you microwave your compost. I realise bought compost is sterile and have often wondered about this. Whilst I can see this kills the bugs etc....doesn't it also kill off the nutrients in the soil or are minerals unaffected by this process? It then becomes devoid of organic matter - so just provides texture? Are bags of horse manure sterile? Sorry, just curious.

You can't kill the elements of the periodic table. You can combine them to make a compound as in H2O = Water. Sterilising should kill off living matter as in bacteria and hopefully weed seeds.

 

I have some in one of my half barrels M. It takes the rain chain from my shade roof so gets a changeover of water for most of the year. I found it in a local ditch. Lovely to have fresh sprigs 'on tap'. Good luck
