I've spent the past few hours digging over a stretch of border :phew:
That wasn't my intention: at all! :nonofinger: Oh no, initially I just wanted to split a hardy geranium (delicate pink colour) and pop a few pieces in the soil below the choisya (Aztec Pearl: white flower) which has the newly discovered clematis growing through it (no idea what colour that will be: yet!).

Then I decided I really ought to put one of the pot hebes in the bare soil, (it has a lovely bottle brush shaped pink and white flower) oh and a rosemary from a pot (currently in flower: blue), then, hmm, possibly a good idea to put the potted hydrangea into that patch too (pretty pink which fades to a sort of burnished colour) :heehee:
:phew: :phew: :phew: Barely made a dent in the border though :rolleyespink: Shortly I'm going to cast some scabious seeds over the soil and have another look through my seed box to see if there is anything else I could be direct sowing in that area - just as fillers until the ground cover and shrubs take a hold next year.

But, just for the moment ... I'm "researching" (aka having a moment on the computer with a cup of tea and slice of home made fruit cake :coffee: )

Painted more of the fence got the first coat done on the panel behind the bed so once i get second coat on the plants can go back in and then i will do the rest of the fence.

Also potted on some globe artichokes and broadbeans and tomatoes so the propagators are ready for the next lot of seed sowing

Didn't do very much today. Potted up some sweet peas with cane supports and finally got round to feeding and top dressing the blueberry bush. Same with the strawberry plants. Sowed a few more cucumber and tomato seeds which will go to my great niece when ready, along with one of the strawberry plants. She's 6 and loves looking after plants, especially those she can eat, but my nephew isn't much of a gardener so auntie Eve provides the goodies :spinning:

Had a good tidy up, potted on a few Dahlias and Geraniums that where germinating on the windowsill, i need to pot on some Cannas and Trailing Begonias too in the next few days. The Tulips are looking good, as are the Aliums too. The Chilli's are growing well too....

Weeded 2 borders, dug over a third and put some fertilizer on and a good mulch of horse poo. Planted a perennial sunflower, moved some polyanthus into the bottom border. Finished shredding all the stuff I cut back, cut the lawn and composted it all. Compost bin completely full now, I will have to try and get a green dalek one until the main bin is "cooked". Finally got round to putting up the green plastic netting on the obelisk and up the fence got either sweet peas or runner beans (haven't decided yet). Just finished loading the car up to go to the tip on the way home from work tomorrow. Ready for a shower and a beer now.

Had a productive evening after putting children to bed.

Put new pane of glass into the greenhouse, started forking over the front lawn to air it after reading a thread on here, potted on 12 geraniums and some tomatoes, moved lobelia from the propogator into pots. Phew! It's now starting to get busy!

Oh and fleeced the greenhouse products! :)

Yesterday I dug 4 circular beds (smallish diameter!), de-rooted meticulously, mixed in compost and planted cherry tree, red gooseberry and 2 blackcurrant bushes. Then I watered the paths all around copiously with Jeyes fluid. Was gutted this morning to go out and find 2 had been dug up in the night. Grrrr. So now they each have their own little corrall of a circle of canes with string woven round. What are the chances of them being ok tomorrow.........?

Nice bit of weeding today accompanied by the chooks who love rummaging through all the weeds I yank out (plus the fact I feed them any worms I find!). Other than that it was a day of finishing some raised beds up the allotment and cleaning out chicken poop. Nice.

Oh yes I also gave up on trying to grow strawberries from seed (after the 5th failed attempt) and bought some plug plants, so they've been repotted and are awaiting their proper homes.

                        Awkward things.

Amongst other jobs ive been doing in the garden, yesterday i finished fitting pea netting to one side of the garden fence, I sowed a fair few sweet pea seeds over 2 week ago and now have a few popping through, hopefully later on in the year this will be a wall of flowers:).

Transplanting some plug plants - 2 foxglove (purple) and 2 delphiniums.

The foxgloves have been added to my lawn meadow (which is sadly lacking in copious wildflowers so am having to intervene. It does well with ox eye daisies).

The delphiniums are quite small so, if they survive the slugs (ha [IMG] ) then they will add a mediating colour balance between the pink hydrangea small shrub and the young japanese maple tree.

I suppose you know that strawberries can be grown from their sucker shoots? I have done this with moderate success...the ones that survived weren't as intense in flavour as the mother plant. I might have overlooked feeding them sufficiently - not sure.
