It's blowing a hoolie out there, but nevertheless I've been out and potted up some Daylilies and a half standard Lilac Sensation :spinning:

I'm trying Wickes compost for the first time and whilst it's lovely once it's loosened, it's taken me about three times as long as it normally would to pot up as I've had to crumble approx 80L of compacted compost by hand first. Being the lazy dollop that I am, I may stick to B&Q Verve in future unless I can think of a way to break the Wickes stuff up another way. Wickes is cheaper though, decisions, decisions.

still raking. But did get some red pansies to plant up in a few outdoor pots. Have a lot of yellow and blue flowers popping. taking the lawn mower out today to suck up some of the leaves in the back part. Then I think I can do a movie walk around for all. Sunny here today.
I also have a ton still to do in my gardens. I do like to sit on a flat rock later in the day down in the valley near the gazebo with a glass of wine watching the birds at the feeder. That is getting to be a tradition now with the cats. We walk the path down together and the cats and I hang down there for a bit. My slop garden next on my list for planting, but has to wait until Mid May to get the plants I want. The new ones I put in there last year, blueberry bushes, and daisy asters are coming up strong. The tall sedums also coming up well, have to remember to cut them in half July 1.

Gave the lawns their first cut, only needed a tiny bit off apart from the dog widdle areas. No problem with the concentrated areas:rolleyespink: but the bits round the edges grow faster than the rest, worth trying to bottle it,it must be pure nitrogen, lovely and lush...
Pricked out Salvia Nemorosa 'Blue Queen'...Calendula 'Art shades',Zinna 'Purple Prince' ,Gallardia 'Goblin' ,French Marigolds 'Naughty Marietta ...Ailsa Craig Toms and Manx Marvels...
Sieved some compost mixes, cor I love leaf mould:rolleyespink: Gave the Buxus a seaweed feed and potted up my new Bishop of Llandaff tubers.Gave everything a good watering as the ground was bone dry and sure enough it's now started raining:doh:

              Coriander
              Digitalis Lutea
              Digitalis Carillion
              Lobelia Tupa

Potted up my monkey puzzle seedlings today and was going to leave them outside but decided to coldframe them instead as we vehad rain, sun, sleet, snow, warmth and cold in the last 48hours

Just gave everything a good soaking - it's not rained all of April with no rain predicted for another week, and it's been boiling the last few days. Even my Alliums have gone floppy. Completely drenched the main bed to cope with the next week.

Also sowed some lettuce seeds in my community veg bed.

So far today we have only managed a poop-scoop, and a full inspection of the fruit trees. Lovely to see the trees coming into flower! Oh, and also had our first lunch-on-the-patio of the season. Hope to get my "potting bench", aka old garden table, moved up to the patio, so that I am not tempted to use our patio table for such mundane tasks. I doubt much more will be done today - the lunch came with to much wine for us to be fit for much more than furniture-moving...and more wine-drinking!

Finished tidying up the bottom of the garden around the chicken pen and took everything to the tip. The girls loved it as they must have had about 100 worms that I found. Sowed some beetroot and climbing beans into modules. I went to a nursery around the corner from work on Friday and got 10 caulis, 10 cabbages, 2 courgettes and a tray of cosmos with about 30 seedlings in for £6, so I have potted on the caulis and cabbage. I will wait for the cosmos as the true leaves are only just showing and I need to get some more pots for the courgette.

They're compacted because of the way they're stacked. I hold the bag by its top corners, bounce it up and down a few times and a lot of it loosens. The bag is then able to stand up on its own.

When I want to use a fair amount of it I tip it into a bucket. Then it's easy to crumble any remaining lumps by hand. :blue thumb:

This morning I spent a bit of time in the garden just mooching about and looking all everything in detail - all the trees leafing and shrubs and perennials putting on new growth and generally looking happier. All that spring greeniness of springtime always makes me appreciate nature and my little bit of it .

Then managed to get the grass cut just before it started pishing down.

2:30PM here. used the riding mower to pick up leaves on the lawn part. Have an area lots of small branches are there, have to rake up that in my wheel barrel , got the big limbs to the burn pile. We have a guy helping with raking also, he wants to up the amount of bulbs planted to 100,000. He says every were he looks there is something coming up, and more on the way. We do have drifts of lots of bulbs.

Lots of weeding as they seem to be going into overdrive at the moment. That was about all for today, not as productive as I thought then

Didn't do much outside today either but went to Garden Centre and bought more large tubs to grow herbs and have done a quick round to see what's changed since yesterday - believe me things are growing quickly and everything I put in yesterday does seem to have enjoyed today's rain.
