Planted the Arran Pilot spuds in the veg plot. In the greenhouse, potted up the sweet pepper seedlings and sowed some courgettes and butternut squash.

Sat in the summer house and read the Sunday paper.

Yesterday we got a lot done :blue thumb:.

I cut (widened slightly) another 100ft of lawn edge, did a load of weeding, cut all the main lawns (front and back), cut back some shrubs and kept moving the sprinkler on the new 55ft bed (it's been so dry here that the ground is cracking up).

As usual, Mrs Shiney did a lot more work than me :heehee:. She does all the fiddly and expert work. She's been checking all the trays of pots in the nursery areas, chucking out things that don't look too good and potting on some of the better ones. Lots of other plants have been split and she's potting up a lot of Lysimachia ciliata 'Purpurea' (dark purple leaves and yellow flowers) for our plant sale on Open Day. She has also potted up a lot of grasses and made bowls of begonias.

She's getting through 4 x 70 litre bags of compost a week at the moment. Note to self: get some more

Didnt get as much done as I had hoped, the wind was horrific! I attempted to sow some veg seeds but the seed trays kept blowing away!

Did pot on a some Fuschias, cut the grass and gave all my pots of Agapanthus a good water and feed. When did I get so many agapanthus, I dont even recall buying them!

Planted up a hanging basket with trailing geranium, and million bells, both scarlet red. Hope it's not too early.
Also, planted up widow box with Dahlias, trailing geranium, million bells and nicotiana.

Have been thinning and trimming the hedge and making sure to leave some cuttings and grass for the birds (who are very loudly courting this morning) will burn what they leave tomorrow.

Checking on what's growing, it's changing by the hour, putting some new ties on the roses and planting out a new Peony (which is way ahead of those already in the garden) so decided to cover it with its own cloche for a little while.

Probably won't get back to the garden for more than half an hour a day until the end of the week so trying to prioritise, this time of year it could be a full-time job even though compared to many of you, my garden is quite small!

I'm missing my garden today, I'm literally thinking about it all the time! :dbgrtmb:, it's been lovely catching up with this thread though & reading all about what you are doing. Although I'm working a late tonight I think I will do a bit of watering when I get home :dbgrtmb:, I can put the outside lights on. If I have time I think I shall nip in to Aldi I fancy some of their oblesks, thought I'd buy them & if they are no good return them in Thursday!
                    Happy gardening folks xx

Haven't done that much over the last few days as the weather hasn't been that good - it was awful for most of yesterday. My friend bought me some "plants for pollinators" as a gift to cheer me up so I planted those up this morning. I'm looking forward to seeing them flower. :spinning:

I have 6 trailing pelargonium from last year that are still alive, no special treatment, they were left in the basket from last year. Just Potted those up in fresh compost and gave them a good water and feed, should be good to go again

Pruned back my young medlar tree that was getting too intimate with a rose bush. Also fed the virginia creeper with potash (supposed to be tomato feed which I don't have but, on a google search, it said this is high in potash). A bit odd since I associate potash for flowers and fruit and the virginia creeper just has its first bud. (?) I was just abiding by my garden calendar (i.e. jobs for the month).

Finally, New York is getting some warm weather, temperature today was about 23 C. I decided to begin opening the greenhouse a little early this year and began planting tomatoes in their self watering containers; I plan on doing a few every day until they are all planted. Planting in the ground is still more than a month away, so I am looking forward to an early harvest. The first two are a Burpee's Super Beefsteak and a Mortgage lifter.
