Sheal, I am using a homemade mix of equal parts builder's general purpose sand, canadian sphagnum moss, compost and agricultural perlite. It holds moisture well, but more importantly it drains well also. Also, I give the plants nutrients every few days.

I got carried away planting seeds and have many more toms than I can use, so I will be trying to find good homes for quite a few plants. This is a screen capture from the IP video camera in the greenhouse. The camera was not expensive and it allows me to check on the greenhouse from anywhere I can get online.

Looking at my rudbeckia seedlings dying from damping off or some other fungal thing :( looks like I'll have to order plug plants for those after all. Not happy. They were quite big as well.

Don't be too down @JackJJW , I only had one rudbekia germinate! I've also a tray of something which I didn't label and have forgotten what it is! :dunno: I don't do labelling, usually my memory is enough.

Had a fair few hours today so did loads of weeding (curse you wood aven), feeding and potting on. Tidied out my greenhouse and planted out a lobelia fan scarlet and penstemon tubular bells wine red.
Edged the bottom lawn with a channel which looks loads better and planted up a hanging basket with a strawberry plant, some impatien plugs and nasturtium seeds (Tom thumb). Finally OH put netting on the fence for my sweet peas.

Bad news is I've got to go over the bed there again as its still far too full of roots and stones. So bye bye to the sweet peas I'd direct sown there. Oh well I got a job lot of sweet pea seeds on ebay so I'll just plant those instead. :dancy:

After two days of feeling like the tin man needing a good oiling to be able to move i felt really well this morning so totally over did it lol

I weeded all the beds in the back garden apart from the big one and the veg patch and filled four trugs with weeds.

I planted out catmint and gave everything a good water. I moved the last of the lavender out of the greenhouse into the cold frame so i can harden it off.

            And i mowed the lawn

Im in horrendous pain now and this was a bad idea for my body but god it feels good to get stuff done and i have def got my vit D dose for today :-)

I've potted up a Lilac and lots of Dahlias into large planters, also in some smaller ones which I've put in the border between the Roses, so looking forward to a profusion of colour in the summer.

Loads done today. Planted out some iris and a perennial gypsophila. It's not growing much in the greenhouse so out it goes. Did loads of weeding- tons and tons of wood aven and some nettles. Last year bindweed was my nemesis, this year it's wood aven. I let it grow under shrubs and in the gravel last year, now it's had it's day. Dug loads out of the path and it looks much better. Mulched a rhodo and camelia with some ericancous compost once weeds were gone.
Sowed more zinnia and direct sowed some larkspur and lots of cornflowers. OH mowed the top lawn and I'm starting to think the garden looks good! (Finally!)
Bluebells will be flowering soon them it's time to get stuck in digging those up.

Finished potting the greenhouse toms today. Still have to run the water lines to the self watering planters, and repot the garden plants to larger pots, then it will be on to the cucumbers. If I had to work this hard for a living, I'd quit.

more chilling than gardening today and nextdoors cat joined me

I have split a pot which had four dianthus plants in it, so that now the pot just has the one plant in it and the other three are in the big flower bed. I also planted out the honeysuckle which survived the builders trampling it and digging up and leaving it out for days.

I will also be sowing some sunflowers and artichokes this afternoon

                          I love your garden @Dips.
Had an hour or so today so dug more weeds at the bottom of the wall and tidied the lawn edging. Everything needed a good drink as it was really hot here today.

Note the dreadful state of the gravel path to the right in the before picture, 2 hours on my hands and knees with my trusty red trowel have made a big difference there too!
