I gave my front lawn it's first mowing of the season today with a half hearted mower. I'm still waiting for it to be picked up for servicing.

Pleased to find my Iris 'Pacific Coast' seeds have started to germinate after stratification outside. I've moved them into the greenhouse to give them a little warmth and hopefully encouragement. :)

Gave my front lawn its first light cut yesterday. The front lawn is still a bit squidgy after the deluge we have had for 3 months. Pruned back my group 3 clematis and tidied a group 2 Bees Jubilee , hope it ups its performance this year.

Had to bring all my potted palms back into the garage as we are expecting a cold one tonight .Already reading -4c so will be dropping more overnight.
The snow aint helping, just aswell garlic likes a short sharp freeze or else it would be toast.

Worked today but my brain was mostly working on lighting problem solving for the seedling area. Figured out how to use old drapery hardware to create a system to raise and lower the lights using a clutch system. No more getting on ladders when I get these made and installed

I've been pot measuring/hunting for my spud competition :heehee:

I've put three varieties of sweet peas onto damp paper in the sprouting seed 3 tier thingy to get them started off. Then I shall pop them into pots and into a makeshift cold frame which is yet to be cobbled together from goodness knows what (that'll be me back into the garden hunting around then )
              Oh the varieties are:-
Old Fashioned Variety, "Mrs Collier", cream colour :fingers crossed:
Spencer Variety, "Anniversary", a frilly one which is white with a pink edge :fingers crossed:
and (allegedly) the most fragrant sweet pea: "Matucana", a bi-colour mauve and violet :fingers crossed:

The girls are out fertilizing and tilling the ground where I aim to plant a fruit tree, relocate my berry bushes and have my raised bed for salad crops. Go girls!! :chicken: :chicken: :chicken:

My kelsae onions look really sad. Two died and the 8 left are limp. Moved them around a little. Honestly don't know what I was trying to accomplish with that but at least I felt as though I had done something..:dunno:

Should be working this morning but may make and install my lighting system raising and lowering system this morning.

Only went out to fill up bird feeders as my back is too bad to do any gardening. The birds now recognise the containers that I keep the food in and started to flock around the feeder before I had even taken the empty feeders off.

As I filled up the first one, and before I could fit it to the candelabra stand, there were two birds (greenfinches) on the feeder (whilst I was holding it) and one (blue tit) perched on my shoulder.

When I filled the big feeder (3ft high x 4" diameter) I had trouble fitting it to the stand because of all the birds flying around me.

I feel quite bad, I haven't done anything much but look at my pots sprouting the bulbs.. and that's through the window! Too cold for my liking. Although I did put a suet block out for the birds the other day.. I wasn't swarmed like Shiney!
Bought some lupin roots (potted them up), tree lily bulbs, oriental lily bulbs, gladioli and some spuds.
Sowed a few seeds indoors on the weekend. Herbs - chives, curly parsley, coriander and basil. Flowers - larkspur and lobelia. Oh and some early peas and I'm experimenting with coring a gladioli bulb. Waiting patiently for some signs of life now .. and the temperature rise :)
                        Would love me a pergola!

Know I've finally finished that, Mrs T wants me to put in a new path and a decking area and raised beds at the end of the garden.
The pergola is made from 90x90mm pergola posts and the beams are 150x50 decking joists, will be growing over honeysuckle, roses and of course a couple of clematis.

New gravel laid. Plants and shrubs in place and new protection from frost for new plants. Weeding, clearing and washing, storing pots. A lovely but chilly day.
