its like faffing about, playing with it, making a mess, getting into a bother then trying to sort it out

edit: I should also say you can make a pot of "potch", swede and mash mixed together

Had another good session this morning and finally finished the job I started yesterday.

Turned out the contents of the second compost bin into the one I emptied yesterday, moved the empty bin away from the fence, painted the fence and cut the hedge behind it, replaced a broken slat on the bin and returned it to its original position.

Still haven't got round to filling the bin with all the stuff I was going to put in it yesterday though.

Does moss removal from one section of the house guttering count as gardening ? A full wheelbarrow full :yikes: :thud:

Mrs Shiney is still cutting back lots of shrubs and herbaceous. I've been doing weeding and we've also picked two large barrow loads of apples, pears and plums.

Elephant garlic planted today in containers, needing a longer growing season .

Lifted several daffodil containers that were crammed with bulbs. 24 bulbs had multiplied to c.120 in 2 years.

Got an old rideon mower started after lying underits tarp for a few years. Will be using it to gather and chop this years leaves which Ive noticed have just started to change colour this week. :autlvs:

Well, like @Kandy, we've been away for a few weeks. I thought I would be coming back to dead chilli and tomato plants. Amazingly, our normal heavy Autumn dews have kept them limping along.:blue thumb:

(I was a bit of a naughty girl on my hols, actually. Lots of lovely plants at our Finistere gite, so I took a few cuttings... I'll be asking for help identifying the plants, if they take - photos of hopefully proud parents on my phone!)

So, I've been picking punnet-fulls of yellow pear tomatoes, tumbling Tom tomatoes, chillies, and corna Rosso peppers. Two + hours of cutting the grass, or at least as much as I could manage. I will need to strip (no, strim, Mr Autocorrect) the bank, anyway. Roses needed dead-heading, the marrow :thud: on the courgette plant removed, and all plants watered thoroughly. The water barrel feature needed topping up about 4 inches, and all the rotten windfalls removed from under the apple trees. Pecked apples have been thrown to the side by the hedge, as we have two families of blackbirds who regularly feed on them.

Phew! I think I'm getting there!

Inbetween getting all the holiday clothes and bedding washed, dried, ironed and aired yesterday I also managed to get our lawns cut especially the back one which had grown at least six inches despite me cutting it the day before we went away:yikes: Oh and I also started putting a lot of my pot plants from down the side of the shed back into the greenhouse before the cold weather sets in.:snorky:

It was so bad that the poor birdies could hardly been seen as they tried to walk around on the lawn trying to pick up seed which other birds had flicked off of the bird table:snorky:

The down side to all this was that caused my broken toe to be quiet painful by teatime so in the end I had to spend the rest of the day chilling out.:snorky:
