I was hoping to continue with the hedging, but its below zero again today. So far, its been a case of sharpening the hedge trimmer and chain saw for when I continue. Not really "in the garden" but as near to it as I can come in this cold!

I'll repeat myself (yawn yawn thread) because I'm quite excited about taking apart my small greenhouse and reassembling with clear polycarbonate. It's at least a 10 hour job so I'll divide it between today and tomorrow. 8 hours today for the structure then 2 hours tomorrow for the door and vent.

Guess I'd better get my skates on - the sky is clearing and the job is waiting -

taking today off work. will be still cleaning out various gardens as needed. putting down a little mulch in some areas, ordering some seeds, preparing some new planting areas (have a old stump that I can chip away a little more) will pile some top soil on it for some plants later.

Planted 6 x Swift new Pots in an old dustbin that in the sun for around 7 hours. Bought some cheap net curtain to (try) stop the White Butterfly from laying her eggs on my Purple Sprout Broc. And dug over some ground for more Potatoes later on.

As I'm still under medical and, more importantly, Mrs Shiney's instructions to take it easy I didn't do a lot out there. Slowly emptied a 70 litre bag of compost into buckets for easy transport for Mrs Shiney. Trimmed another 100ft of lawn edge. Chatted to Sarafi and he accompanied me on a walk round the garden whilst I photographed plants. Lots of bees held his interest for a short while. Had to go back on to painkillers

Potted up some hedychiums Assam orange and 12 cannas from last year.
All have some new shoots showing after just being dumped in the GH on the floor with some damp news paper on them.

A little gentle pottering. Potted on an apricot and a nectarine, binned a few plants that had turned up their toes, chopped grasses , planted out crocusses and watched the robins nesting in the front hedge:)

Gardening is so much more pleasurable when the sun is on your back!
Cleared up the hosta bed and tidied up the clematis and Virginia creeper.
The lawn really could do with a cut but still abit damp, hopefully it will stay dry and I'll do it tomorrow.

                        Totally agree!

Today I have tidied and tied a floppy Potato Vine, hacked at a variegated hebe that is no longer variegated :th scifD36: and if it doesn't buck its ideas up will end up in the compost bin (yeah, that told him! :paladin: ) :heehee:

I have some verbena plants, which I got on offer last year as plug plants. They grew to 6' and flowered beautifully. Over winter (albeit a mild one) they lost a bit of their fresh green colour, but, today, I notice new growth from various points up the length of the stalks. Well, all I've done is to tie them into the trellis for the time being and hopefully that is the right thing to do? I know it is a perennial, but that's about all

I have taken the secateurs to the "Golden Showers" climbing rose and I'm sure it is very grateful too.

The garden is relieved to have had a bit of attention today and I'm sure it will reward me accordingly :snorky:

What a day! Started off by digging over a bed I am going to use just for dahlias this year. Added some chicken manure and left it be for now. Then I went on a weeding mission and got rid of loads of couch grass and the hateful wood avens. Cut back the rampant clematis which covers an arch each year and pruned the companion rose accordingly. Fed all the primroses and watered everything in the greenhouse. Potted on some strawberries and finally got my raspberry canes into 2 large pots with plenty of feed.
Resowed some sunflower seeds a mouse had eaten and took some verbena bonaresiss cuttings. The parent plants need a good cut back but I'll leave it til the weather gets warmer.
Replanted the 2 hanging baskets that live out front too.
Then went on the clean the kitchen floor to ceiling and inside out as we have been redecorating in there.
Plus I'm 4 months pregnant so tired is an understatement right now!
Chinese food, gardeners world on catch up then bed is the plan!

Well I've finally pruned the roses and got rid of some old wood right from ground level. Sowed 13 different sorts of Sweet Peas, using the plastic pint glass method. Was thinking of doing some more seeds while I'm watching " Indian Summers " but I'm gonna have a rest I think :)

Just a quick burst in the garden this morning, Mrs Trunky mowed the lawn while I went round with the edging shears. First grass cut of the year. :)
