I was very busy yesterday so didn't have much time to give to the garden.

I just trimmed another 100ft of lawn edge and filled another 54 x 3.5" pots with compost for Mrs Shiney. It felt much too cold out there for my old bones :old: :heehee:

I now need to go to Wickes and get another 4 x 70litre bags (£15). I managed to keep last year's usage down to about 3,000litres :blue thumb:

Is Mrs S using you as slave labour @shiney
My new scarifier arrived yesterday so trying it on the front lawn after 10 this morning. I never use power tools before 10 at weekends.

Went with Mr Kandy over to my late father in laws house yesterday and met up with his sister and family members and while they all fiddled and farted around indoors going through the last items that are still in the house I got on with digging up some of the many cowslips and polyanthus plus a few crocus plants that Mr Kandy wants for our garden.Even with the amount I dug up there are still loads left so the young couple who are buying the house will still have the enjoyment of them:smile:

My sister in law wanted some of the tulips so dug some of them up for her but it was a struggle as they were deep rooted. Also was asked to dig up some of the rooted Jasmine plants that had rooted themselves for her and her daughter and as I was struggling with one of the plants one of the fork tines broke so now we have to go out and buy a new fork:sad:

Back home we had a quick bite to eat then set about getting the plants split up and dug in round the garden. It was bitterly cold outside despite us being wrapped up warm and the plants looked a bit sad in their new homes but once we get the warmer weather and they get their roots down in the soil they should pick up nicely and we will have a lasting memory of my father in law:smile:

As I have been bringing home buckets of leaf mould/compost from the allotment and spreading it round my borders the new plants will love it:snorky:

Good morning to day I am going to plant

            20 Liatris Spicata bulbs
            12 Crocosmia "Emily McKenzie bulbs
            25 Dutch iris"Purple Sensation"
            20 Gladiolus "Green Star"
I was debating to pot them up in the cold greenhouse or plant them in one of my raised beds and cover them up with a sheet of clear plastic,so I have decided to plant them in the raised bed for this year and that way I can transplant them next year in to a border;)

Still have 10 Dahlias to plant up later when its warmer:smile:

What a lovely, thoughtful neighbour you are! :star:
There are builders on the land at the back of mine (2 semi's going up) and last Sunday they were out there at 8am banging and "chatting" to one another (builders chat = shouting over their own noise)
Today, I've been up and about since before 5am ... and they are having this Sunday off :th scifD36: :heehee:

Been out and trimmed one of the hydrangeas. It's a variety which flowers on both new and old wood, so really it was just a case of cutting out any dead wood.
The rose cuttings I'm trying to root with the potato method have now been put to bed in a quiet area albeit near the hens, but they are not interested in roses, so should be fine.
Just waiting for His Lordship to get up and then we can get on.

I shall be sheltering from the cold wind and replanting, thinning out the insectivorous plants in the greenhouse.

I sowed some veg seeds in a raised bed. Those plus a second bed of indoor-sown seeds (being sown this coming weekend) will be my first GYO adventure ever, so I'm happy with a small scale start!

Tip runs all done and the garden looks less like a builders yard now :phew: Who knew weeding, deadheading, planting potted plants and laying bark chips would result in so much ... junk! :heehee:
OH how exciting :yay: Wishing you the very Best of British luck with them - not that you'll need it, I'm sure. Can't wait to read about your successes later in the season

Last year I bought a trachleospermum jasminoides. I've been promising myself that I'd take it off it's tripod of canes since I bought it, but actually managed it today! Some of the leaveves are yellow, so tomorrow I will give it a light trim. Is it too early to fertilise?

This weekend I planted a few different varieties of Asparagus and three types of onion sets down the allotment. Down there I have also ripped down the rotten raspberry structure and have started my attempt to replace it. I didn't have the right tools so will fix it properly on Easter Friday. But the polls are now in at least.

In our garden I can see everything is now racing into growth with the warm, dry weather.

Annoyingly the "Ivory White" wallflowers I bought from Mr Fothergills are in fact yellow >:( there goes our white spring garden for another year.
