What jobs are we doing in the garden today 2016

Sowed some Aster and Echinacea.
I was going to sow a third tray of seeds, but when I opened the packet there were none, not a one, in there Guess it must be an air plant
Painted some pots for the patio

 

I cut four branches off one of the trees in the front garden do I could make my Easter display, the hens helped they scrapped about under the conifer hedge & now I have a pile of dead leaves to clear up! . I'm at work now, late tea break today.

 

simply over joyed...my little carrots are all grown up now..

 

Today has been a busy one for me.

At a foggy 4C this morning, it was a bit too cold to go out there. So the morning was spent making up a set of flails for my old Chipper/Shredder. They will get finished tomorrow. If there is any interest, I might just start a topic on the work I've been doing on that in a few days time.

After an early lunch, the temperature had risen, so it was out into the garden to do a bit of strimming, mowing, and scarifying. Thats finished, and I've even managed to place an order for some plants. Theres a 2-3 week waiting list for the ones I want, so it was good to order them now.

 

Haven't anything to plant so instead I made a support for my Chaenomeles (which is in a pot by the back door in the dreaded "shade" part of the patio) from bamboo and string; it will have to do in lieu of something better. Popped a piece of ivy into the pot just because I could Swept the patio and moved a few things around to make it look fresher/rejuvenated (it's all a psychological game at this time of year ).

Hi over the last week or so ive weeded the border around the fence, the last few days ive found time to widen the inner lawn borders, it looks like the lawn could do with a feed is it too early for lawn feed please.

 

Keeping my mind occupied.

Sown 3 kinds of sunflowers with little Mowgley tonight and also sown some impatiens bi Caudata and balsamina and 100 French marigolds for gap fillers and to plant with the tomatoes in the GH.
Must start potting on soon running out of room in the house so come on Spring hurry up

 

I planted these yesterday, i love the Berberis darwinii, i went back and bought two more.

Many thanks Sheal, i noticed your post on another thread, so i will hold fire i burnt it last year doh, its the lawns second year and pleased with how its looking after it first cut, thanks again you was a big help along with others last year :-).

 

You're welcome Martin. Don't be tempted to over dose with any lawn chemicals. As you've already learnt they can burn. If the situation arises where there's spillage in one spot, remove as much as possible if it's granular and give the area a good watering to flush it through after. The same can be done for liquid chemicals too.

 

I've now finished off the shredder flails I started to make yesterday, and shortly will be raking up after yesterdays scarifying.

I did get some good news earlier in regards to the front garden. Finally, I can dig the ditches across it to lay my new water and sewage drains! In its turn, as soon as the ground has consolidated, that part of the garden can be started!

 

Mr "M" and I have been moving heavy stuff to make the garden tidier and more efficient. Also put a barrier up to stop the hens nibbling my loganberry/tayberry and gooseberry bushes.

Took down last years strawberry planter from the hanging basket; moved the moss on top of the soil, jiggled the soil a bit only to discover ...
some grubs in the soil Yup: vine weevil grubs Carefully salvaged a few strawberry roots and picked off any visible grubs. Then (like an utter numpty turnip) endeavoured to pick out the grubs from the soil, one by one Realised it would take a while, so decided to microwave that compost instead. Nothing is moving in it now

No idea if I've saved the strawberries or not, but I've given it my best shot.

Another positive thing is that it will give me the chance to play with a "Big Boys Toy." In other words, a JCB or equivalent!
