Thinking about buying a Ensete ventricosum 'Montbeliardii' but I can't decide if it will just become too tatty looking.

@martin-f I wonder if you could tell me what sort of wood that is that you are using. I bought some wood to do mine but looking at it I think it may be too thin.
You're a much neater worker than I, my garden currently looks like a bombsite. :snork:

Hi EH, I guess it depends on what work your doing i have a slope and wanting to lose it when i start work on the horizontal part in front of the summer house it will be retaining the soil back from the top half of the garden so I needed something beefy,

This is a link to what i am using i shopped round and got them for £12.50 each 200x100x2.4
          http://www.qualitygardensupplies.co.../Railway-Sleepers-softwood-10-pack/p/54989324

My end result should look something like this but i might use decking rather than paving unsure at the moment.

Not sure which way this might persuade you but ...

... decking is a rodent magnet (Mickey Des Res) :mute:

Not if installed correctly M, but thanks for the heads up :) I am a joiner by trade and installed hundreds in my time, you just don't leave any big gaps :blue thumb:

@martin-f thanks for the link, I shall consult hubby and see what he thinks. I'm raising the level of the beds as gardening on a slight slope with problematic water coming in from the neighbouring property which is slightly higher than us. I'm not really sure yet how high to raise the beds as i am busy regrading the ground. :)

Your photo of what you are aiming for looks lovely.

@"M" hubby did not make it to the tip last night so in an effort to encourage him I've piled up the rubbish soil in front of his hut. :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

This morning I marked out the positions of the plants that should have been arriving today. Only to be told at lunch time that delivery is delayed until mid-May....Grrr!

After that it was something I have never done before. Edged part of the lawn, then mowed that area for the first time this year. Normally, all will be edged and mown at the same time, but the rest does not need doing. Very pleased to report that the mower started first pull after its winter hibernation. Thanks no doubt to keeping the tank full of fuel all winter. :)

Went to the local garden centre and bought two new plants for the garden. One was a Ribes Nigrum "Ben Gairn" (Blackcurrant) to replace one that had not survived. The other was Pyrus Salicifolia "Pendula." (Weeping Silver Pear). Putting them in was certainly a lot less eventful than the journey to the garden centre and back!

Got to move a gallairdia (thought they were annuals but this one came back) to make space for my potato container
                            [IMG]

Probably won't be as successful as the picture but it will be better than the laundry basket I used last year. :rolleyespink:

Got lots of other things to do, after my show.;)

Hope everyone has a super day in the garden or inside if it is raining.
