Haven't planted anything as of yet. I've got to completely clean up my garden first, get rid of all the weeds and stuff and then cut the grass. After that going to be planting some tomatoes, spinach and potatoes.

I am building a raised bed at the moment to deal with a problematic area. Its a against my garage wall, east facing so its very dry, and the only planting space is only about a foot wide, and due to the foundations for the garage, its shallow too. I have tried in vain for 5 years to get something to grow, and had really limited success. What did grow, was weak and just looked awful. So, my solution, is a raised bed.

I made a good bit of progress yesterday, Im now waiting for some more wood to be delivered so that I can fix the bed to the ground, then line with black plastic and fill with a mix of top soil and compost. I had also added to my existing irrigation system so it should do ok.

As its a raised bed, I intend to plant it up with various interesting plants that would ordinarily be at ground level, but would now be at eye level (well, when seated). Disporum, Polygonatum, Actaea, Tricyrtis, Arismaea, etc.

      Excuse the mess.

Everyone seems so busy with building things. Our gardens are pretty well done, just a matter of keeping up with the growing, cutting grass, picking up limbs, sticks, burning, trimming, splitting, raking, etc. Planting a few annuals if I choose. baskets etc. Just up with the 3 acres takes time.

Managed to pot on one more Dahlia! Also went 'grrrrr' at state of grass seed after torrential rains followed by freezing weather and then the soil caking and cracking.

          Grrrrr.

After strimming I mowed my back lawn which has become choked with moss over this last winter. It will need some work but will have to wait until after my holiday which is coming up soon. I also spent a couple of hours in the greenhouse potting on seedlings and then washing pots and trays ready for storage.

Had a real go at getting rid of the acanthus which seems to spend everywhere among the salvias and diascias. Pulled up a load of nettles from the back of the border and spread plenty of mpc and bark chippings around. Sowed parsnips and beetroot. Admired the newly emerged French beans, courgettes, tomatoes, cerinthe, bishop's children and malva. Picked a bag of spinach for tea.

I've dug mine up as it was getting too big for it's boots but I've potted on some root cuttings of it for sale at the Annual Local Gardening Club sales in May. It also had the habit of sending underground runners out of the area where I wanted it to stay,so it was time for it to go.:coffee::snorky:

@NCFCcrazy I like the idea of your raised bed but are you going to line the back of it? There may be a danger of the brickwork getting rather damp, otherwise.

Yeah, got some black plastic to line it, should make the wood last a bit longer too. I want to paint it a bright colour as it's a dull spot, but the wife said no [emoji22]

Do it when she's sleeping :snork:

Nothing today, well yet.. but will be potting on the azalea and hydrangea before I find a final place for them. Might sow some more flowers later on when kiddies are in bed, had a jig about and got bit more room for some:)
Last few days, finally made a start on my peas and bought more peas for end of summer.
Sowed the cat grass :cat-kittyandsmiley:, giant single sunflowers, evening sun sunflowers, redone larkspur (kiddie killed my lone survivor by over watering :rolleyespink:), sown more marigolds, re-potted some marigolds, snapdragons, hollyhock, cosmos, delphinium, pepper and toms. Started some strawberry seeds with the little one, decided I'm growing a pot of carrots and one of parsnips (not letting my seed go to waste and besides, I really want to try my hand at some veg!) and I'm wondering whether to grow corn in buckets or have corn block at the back. AND... I really, really want a nectarine or a peach tree so I'm looking for a good variety and trying to decide which one is the better.

                              • Mowing the southern lawn, which has suddenly woken up and gone FWOOSH and is almost too long already
                              • Feed and water some things
                              • Maybe pot out the deposed dwarf hebe from the front bed into the larger, heavier pot I got it (the temp' plastic pot is too light and it keeps getting blown round the garden :frown: )
                              • Possibly plant out a few of the sweet pea seedlings in their new home

Haven't done much today, but finally moved the huge Hazel stool stump off the grass, and then spent 2 hours cutting the grass. Loving the new lawnmower, but not so sure about the grass-box-full indicator. Sure, it tells me when it's full, right enough. But I can't lift it one-handed when it's full, as it's too bleedin' heavy!! I have to half balance it on my hip, or have one hand holding it by the hook... Nearly fell into the compost heap a couple of times, too, trying to empty it...:heehee:

Nearly recovered from all that effort, so it will be time to go back out and do some more gardening. Just need to finish my :coffee:.
