    A pleasant afternoon's pottering. :)

    Mowed and edged the lawn.
Did a little weeding around the veg patch and tied some more string around the broad beans for support, as there are some strong winds forecast next week.
Lifted and divided my Tiarella 'Iron Butterfly', potted up a few spare pieces too.

Planted 12 potato Jazy in the poly in big pots for an early crop, haven't grown them before. Pricked out cabbage, sprouts, kale, tomatoes. Very pleased my green zebra and yellow pear have done so well from saved seed from lastyear, dried on kitchen towel.

I potted up around 60 of the Tomato seedlings that were in the trays as they had developed their second pair of leaves. I'd sown 6 varieties, Ailsa Craig, Rosada, Jeane Flamme, Red Ruby, Shirley and Money Maker all at the same time, but for some reason Money Maker hasn't germinated well. So I have just the one Money Maker seedling that has just decided to poke it's head out of the compost........very strange:doh::scratch::coffee:

I spent the afternoon in the greenhouse potting on the last of the seedlings. All they need to do now is grow! :) I've only grown six tomatoes from seed this year and it looks like only two are going to survive. It's the first time I've had failures at this stage and haven't got a clue why. You win some, you lose some!

Sorry to hear that you've not had much joy with your tomato seedlings, @Sheal.

Wish I could smuggle a couple of yellow pear plants over to you, but I'm sure to get caught... Of course, I still don't know if they will come true to seed.:dunno:

Yesterday I finally got round to sowing some more seeds -
Yellow and green courgettes, squash (no idea where I'll grow these, if they come up!), coriander, rocket, lettuce, French bean purple teepee, French bean Ferrari, runner bean scarlet empire... Oh, and some pretties, purple wallflower, silver cup mallow, and bees knees sunflower.
(Now, why do I list the veg with variety second, and flowers with variety first? Not even I understand how my mind works sometimes!!)

This weekend has been very gardenny. It hasn't rained during the day so I've been up to a few bits. I had to do some research into digging beds in the garden as there are concrete foundations for next-door's fence and a shed in odd places. After this was done, I've dug over and mulched three spaces in the garden to give some beds for summer planting. Into those have gone bulbs/corms of:

De Caen Anemone (mixed colours, half price sale at wilko)
                Purple/pink mix of Gladioli
                Purple Liatris
                Dark blue/purple Triteleia
(Last three from a basket of 50 Summer Bulbs for £4 in Aldi)

A couple of £1.50 plug trays of petunias; Blue Vein and Ice Mix - wilko

                And seeds of:
Kew Gardens Grow Wild wildflower seeds (mixed)
Aster "Ostrich Feather" (40p in Wilko!)
And another layer of mixed Cornflower seeds into the left hand border which will be a mix of wild grasses, weeds and wildflowers...the packet says to sow seeds once every couple of weeks for a continual display over the summer!

Potted the following: 5x Dahlia (3x cactus mixed, 2x purple mixed), 2x Aquilegia "Black Barlow" (all in half price sale at Wilko)

Pricked out some chamomile plants I grew from germinating a teabag (no idea what kind of chamomile they are!!) and put them into two plug trays.

Weeded the patio with a little success. Tidied up and deadheaded pansies and violas in a hanging basket. I have two Aloe Vera plants indoors which were getting mightily crowded in their pots, so I separated the plants, repotted some of the extras in new pots and now the older central plants have more pot growing space.

Mown, fed, watered the lawn and dug out about 50 dandelions which had very long established roots! (Argh, there is a network of roots over a lot of the garden!) and a fair bit of weeding.

Here it is so far... Not very impressive!!

I've also got some seeds for some guerrilla seeding an area of plain ground opposite the house and up the path; Swan River Daisy and mixed Cornflowers.

...and now it is time for a cup of tea and a sit down!

I'm off to lie in a darkened room. I have just finished splitting a huge clump of Campanula Lactiflora.OMG I had forgotten their roots are massive and were heading for Australia. Not sure if the bits I've hacked up will survive or not. Going to make sure where I plant the bits that they won't need moving again in my lifetime! I thought my very large Hostas were grim to move, they are a cinch in comparison to this plant.

Couldn't do mowing as my back was troubling me so I decided to trim some lawn edges. That job morphed into clearing the leaves from one of the beds and digging out big weeds. Back's OK but leg is now hurting. So given up! :noidea:

Filled a wheelie bin, though. :blue thumb: :)

Dug mud, moved mud, dug more mud. Hit stones, moved stones etc...

I now have a trench, or the start of footings actually for a small wall that will border a new patio. A few tree roots that I haven't brought myself to chop yet.

Emptied all the pots at the front of the house and planted them round the back. Front is a tricky bit so pots it is......but that will have to wait until I can get new plants at the end of the week.
Started digging up the second half of the back garden and the soil is much better so am overjoyed. :)
Bagged up some rubble ready for yet another trip to the tip and washed all the boulders and stones that I'd set aside in hope that some would be pretty...... Very pleased to find a few crackers in amongst the pile :)
Spent a very long time watching assorted insects, bees and butterflies :spinning:
Oh, and i dug out the whirliegig. :yahoo:

Top dressed the lawn, sorted out a few bare patches and over seeded. Used a seed mix that contains micro clover so hoping that takes nicely.

Also, went to garden centre to get some bits for irrigation system. Came back with a Daphne and a peony. But guess what I forgot
