I've, finally, finished digging, weeding and composting/manuring the new bed. The next thing to do is to put in the plants that the boss has decided to have in there. It's going to be a, possibly, temporary site for loads of Liliums. Mrs Shiney has been looking after them in one of the nursery areas and has decided that they need to go in the ground. We can then see what colour and type of flower they produce, which will give us an idea of what to do with them. They look to me as though they should be split but Mrs Shiney says she would really prefer to know which they are first.

Like Beckie, it's Paracetamol time. :blue thumb: :phew: :old:

Trip to the garden centre for some more plants, then home to plant them into pots. Need to get some more pots though.

Got a few jobs done in the greenhouse this afternoon. Planted out the tomatoes, potted up about 80 hyssop seedlings, sowed some butternut squash and a couple of cucumbers. Also took a couple of cuttings from a sprig of rosemary which snapped off when I was moving some pots around.

Finished off with a little weeding around the herb patch and the semi-wild flower border.

Spent much of the afternoon clearing part of my mother in laws garden. She used to enter the local In Bloom competition and used to do very well. She hasn't had much time in the late few years so some of its got out of hand. Ivy has invaded with a vengeance and it all got on top.

As she looks after my kids a couple of times a week, I think I owe it to her to get her garden back under control. Back breaking work, that ivy was in everything. Still a lot to do, but I think I can finish it next weekend. Really shod have done a "before" pic.

Annoying though that she chucked a tenner through the car window as I left. She is very stubborn and wouldn't take it back. Will just have to use it to buy her some plants

We had a huge family bbq today but I snuck out after everyone had left and dug up 3 buckets of bluebells, a large primrose and japanese anenome for the kids at school (gardening club) to plant tomorrow. There's 10 of them and 30 minutes so they'll have to get cracking!

She looks upon having your kids as a pleasure, whereas what you did was a chore. So you can't blame her for wanting to pay you something. :blue thumb: The best thing to do is protest just once "There's no need for that" and then accept gracefully. :) If you buy her some plants she'll give you even more money next time.

                    That's very kind. :blue thumb:

If the teacher is a conservationist they may want to know whether the bluebells are Spanish or English, although they should be able to recognise them. It's now frowned upon to propagate the Spanish ones as they are ousting the English ones. :noidea:

Sorry, I missed this first time round   Do you have a Morrisons near to you? I bought a "Guernsey Cream" from there the other week, so worth taking a look

Yesterday I created a carrot fly barrier down the allotment and sowed more carrot seeds. I also sowed parsnips. I had to sow another row of peas as one had been entirely wiped out by slugs :(

And at home I potted on all of my grass seedlings and moved almost all seedlings outside into the plastic greenhouse coldframe thing.

Saw a pair of great tits coming in and out of my garden last night. Went out after it stopped and it must have been after slugs, there were loads of little ones all over my plants!!

Thank you but by some miracle I found a Guernsey Cream (an unflowered one no less!) at the same Homebase I searched on Saturday. It was hiding right at the back, had to carefully untwine a fellow clematis that had grabbed onto it but was well chuffed! I was looking through all the plants in the climbers section for a good 10 minutes!

Also picked up a couple of Dianthus, many terracotta planters & a bargain Jasmine officinale from B&Q for £1.99 (in the reduced bit but looked perfectly healthy).
