I put mine out last weekend, although they are under a plastic cloche, and I have two spares....

I only sowed mine last week. I did a little trial a few years back and found early so wings were less productive than later ones, probably due to periods of cold. I never sow before May now.

Think I'll sow a couple of extras just to have a backup

The greenhouse tomatoes are flowering and setting fruit, so they are taking in a lot of water. Today I connected the water lines to the autopots to automate the watering process.

A good idea but I think you will be OK this time, anyway. :blue thumb: We tend to sow spares just in case the wildlife get the first lot.

Good morning I have just transferred all my Dahlias (12)from the one of my raised beds in to large pots and have put a protective wire mesh cage round the pots so that the slugs and snails can't get to them:smile:

I have committed myself to total garden work today and hope all weekend. (may rain) cutting grass, pulling weeds, organizing the outside stuff. Would love to get to the gazebo as it needs much attention.

Well, I was going to be bagging up fresh horse-muck from the local stables, but it is v heavy drizzle, set in for the day. I would happily shovel my own horse's poo in the rain, but someone else's....?!

So instead, I've taken the soft cloche off my courgettes and aubergines, so they get watered, and planted out my last three outside tomato plants (gardeners delight). No, wait, I have two or three tumbling toms to go in as well... Maybe if it eases off for a bit.

Meanwhile, I feel my twice-annual ironing session approaching. Cmon, sun, shine!!!

I spent the day tackling the 15' or so of rose trellis containing my climbers down by the pond. The trellis had tilted forward heavily due to the heavy winds during February and I kept putting the job off knowing it wasn't going to be "nice". I wore garden gloves but forewent the heavy clothing due to the warm day and effort I knew it would take. I had to use a Pole Lopper and Secateurs to cut down the mass of stems and other stuff to lighten the trellis. The roses, as I discovered, were armed with barbs like Tigers teeth and I got "bitten" numerous times from the wrists right up to the upper arms:hate-shocked::gaah::cry3: The thick garden gloves I wore were of no protection whatsoever and my fingers were "stuck" by thorns all the time. I've used two 6' x 4" x 2" pieces of Timber to use as permanent props when I pushed the trellis back to a vertical position. Tomorrow I'll finish the job by adding a third similar prop
to the far end of the trellis while trying to keep away from the roses!! I've spent the evening, after taking a shower, to bathe my wounds with Dettol and then applied Savlon but my arms are still on fire but I feel it was worth it to get the job nearly done.:coffee::snorky:

If I can get out there in between the rain I will re-do the lawn edging, and finish planting out the dahlias and salvias

Have been a bit lazy and left everything to it last week or so.. Need to pot on my pepper and tomatoes, most of my flowers from seed need to be moved on, things that have been bought could do with bigger pots, baskets to be planted up but it's too wet .. so potting up most of it in the kitchen again :rolleyespink:  not giving a monkey's about mess it needs to be done before I move! :heehee:

Planting 4th row of brassicas. The other 3 rows seem to be doing very well under their fleece cloche. Turning the compost.

Dug up a Rhododendron Tortoiseshell Champagne which I donated and then removed a Rhododendron Hotei from its pot, root pruned it and planted that in its place. I went out between rain showers and the ground is completely sodden, so not very pleasant for planting out.
