Just got in from the garden, been out there since 8am, such a nice day here in the Fens.

Cleaned out the water butts and trying a new filter system from gutters to stop the spigot getting blocked up (knew I had a reason for keeping that old nasty net curtain!).
Set up a spot in the compost heap for pattypan squash I'm germinating (an old rusty metal bin I'd been saving for that special recycling project :rolleyespink::smile: - OH had put it in the car a couple of times for the recycling dump, so now happy it has a purpose after sitting around for ages.
Dug over an area that had got infested with spanish bluebells, hard work in heavy clay, but it is one of the areas that's been on my to-do list for ages.
Pruned a hawthorn that was dangling over neighbours driveway.
Planted a shady area with some annuals just for a bit of colour.
Up to the nursery to buy more compost and said annuals.

    More weeding ....

    Need a cuppa now.

Potted on the Cucking Squirtcumbers, sown yet more Bridgwater beans as there were 3 slugs under the tray that ate the lot

Soaking the Lemon pot overnight to flush out/drown whatever ate all the leaves last night :th scifD36:

Sowed some Black Pearl Chillies, not sure if they'll come up, just found the seed Penny sent me years back

        Planted the Sunflowers out

Not much today, as at church all morning, a quick pop home to change, and then a friends leaving/birthday do this afternoon:sad:. So many of my "long-term" or lifer expat friends have either left, or are about to leave. Not good!!

So all we have done is a wander around the garden, looking at the new fruit trees, the fruit bushes, the rhode-dodies (will take a picture when it's not chucking it down), then back inside before the aforementioned rain!

A bit overcast and muggy here today, but it stayed dry so I cracked on with a few odd jobs.

In the greenhouse - Planted a couple of cucumbers in large 20lt pots, planted out the sweet peppers, sowed some basil, pumpkins and a couple more cucumbers.

Outside - Planted the two large pots I emptied yesterday with Gazanias, emptied and planted up another one with a couple of lavender plants I had to spare. Did a bit of light weeding around the salad veg and another quick hoe in between the spuds. Finished off with a bit of watering this evening.

I had to delay, until today, the putting into position of the last 6' x 4" x 2" piece of timber to act as a prop for the 15' or so of trellis for the climbing roses down by the pond because of the rain that persisted throughout the day. I think there is a Gremlins Law that says the last nail, screw, etc, in a job is the one that is the most awkward as it took me a while to get the timber and the trellis into the proper position:dunno::wallbanging:. But in the end all three pieces of timber are in a permanent position and ready for being tested in some bad, windy weather.
I then had to find space for 9 Delphiniums to be planted in the borders in clutches of 3. My borders, I confess, are over planted with hardy perennials interspersed with shrubs/roses with a several layers of different bulbs underneath so it's no easy task to find a spot where the new plant won't be shaded, overgrown by surrounding plants:doh: But I finally managed to find a spot for them all. Then I tied in the Roses and Honey Suckle on either side of the Arbour and then tied in the numerous Clematis on either side of the Trellis entrance to the garden. I always allow a certain number of "weeds" in the garden such as a patch of Nettles, Willow Herb, etc. But, every now and then, certain species take advantage and proliferate beyond the limits. Willow Herb was just such a plant this year so I reduced them by 2/3rds and added another foot or so in height to the compost heap:snorky: One of the problems that some of my Roses in the borders suffer from is being smothered by other plants such as Phlox, Delphiniums, Japanese Anemones, Sidalcea, Inula that always seem to have it in mind to exactly that. So I did a slow wander along the borders and had to cut back some of the offending plants threatening to over shadow the Roses........and after that, had a sit by the pond with a mug of tea.:coffee::snorky:

Did a healthy 10 hours outside today! :yikes: With some help from husband of course.
Potted on/repotted more things than I care to mention, including a eucalyptus and hebe I'd had since August last year. Hopefully they'll be happier now.
Gave all my potted roses a liquid feed. Days away from lots of healthy blooms now!
Planted out a few sweet peas and dahlias. Went to pot on an iris and then did my usual propagation to make 3 of them instead!
Pulled up some weeds and hoed a few others. Gave the garage and shed a huge clear out and tidy as shed is having some repairs soon.
Met a hedgehog in my neighbour's garden and marvelled at the cuteness! We named him Bobby. :wub2:
Deadheaded most of the bluebells and spotted bindweed I need to blitz soon.
Then gave the patio a huge sweep and tidy, moving pots around too.
OH did the lifting and sweeping, and gave the lawn some Aftercut feed. He also neatened the lawn edges and gave the Ribes, Lilac and Forsythia a trim. A very productive day!

Not all in the garden, but, all outside.......

Painted my moms ( and her next door neighbours ) porch. Planted up 4 wall baskets with Petunias. Then had to move all the containers from the right hand side of the garden to the left as there's someone coming to demolish and take away the shed on Tuesday so had to clear a way through for them.

Its more work painting it than making it Anthony, the next one for the other side i will paint it before I make it,

Looking at it now its nearly finished I need a few none aggressive climbers to go up as well as planting things to trail down.

Greenhouse most of the day, transplanted Foxgloves and Lupins for next year and moved them outside, moved cucumbers and tomato plants into their big 13L growing buckets, also sad as it is throw away about 20 tomato plants as have grown too many :noidea:

Also checked on my Black Lace cuttings from 2 weeks ago and most of them have rooted :)

but still not having any joy with my attempts at Rex Begonia cuttings :help:

I only got some mowing done yesterday as I was out most of the day - but Mrs Shiney spent all day gardening and patio grouting. We're trying not to do too much in the greenhouse because of the nesting robins, although they don't seem too bothered.
