In my experience they dont send out rhizomes.....not those I grow, so far! They do grow quickly and I lift and divide every year or two Shiney. I have same attitude to underground running plants...they are ejected v quickly if I notice that.
Funnily enough some of the most "running" plants are salvias....ulignosa, guaraniticia, varieties like Blue Note etc.....again, I control these by lifting every year or two :)

@Verdun The Phygelius was rather a surprise. Having only been in 2.5 years it had grown so many roots and runners that even Michael was having trouble removing it. He eventually got it out by rope and truck!! :yikes:

I grew a yellow....Yellow Trumpet???? .....phygelius a few years back and it was invasive very quickly. Artemisia Limelight was even more so.....this was in for a few weeks in summer only yet it took me another 12 months to remove the last of them; like bindweed the roots are brittle and every piece roots. Euphorbia Griffithii too. :gaah:
I always monitor new plants within first year to make sure triffids dont take over :nonofinger:

@shiney and @Verdun I never knew the name of the yellow flowering plant someone gave me about 20 years ago but it took me years to finally eradicate it and now I see the name Phygelius and looked up a picture of it, I see that that is precisely the monster I had. It even started appearing out in the middle of the lawn :yikes: Liked the height and flowers and tried to reduce it to a controlled area by digging deep, lining with metal cloth and commercial landscape cloth and then planting in but the stuff managed to escape from there too so I gave up and got rid of the lot.

I need to spend part of today weeding. We had lots of rain and they should be easy peasy to pull with the ground being so soft :)

Got a trachelospermum jasminoides from local nursery for my nephew. Large plant with a few flowers on and a bargain price. Wonderful scent and nice foliage. :)
Lovely warm, even hot at times, day but a brief heavy shower appears from nowhere from time to time. :noidea:
Do we look at our flowers close enough? Persicaria Blackbird caught my eye today.....tight columns of red flowers with little black dots on every floret. Charming :)
Just heard Bruce Forsythe has died. One of the special guys
                  I think. "Didn't he do well"? :)

Can't beat that fragrance can you, plus evergreen interest is a bonus. I can smell mine from inside the house in June & July. Same weather here.. came out of no where when I was edging the lawn - such a satisfying job. Shame to hear about Bruce, often see him shopping at John Lewis.. other stores are available.

Planted out some more salvias, lifted the onions and placed on trays in shed to dry off, planted some potatoes for an autumn crop, weeded leeks and brassicas also removed surplus caterpillars. Trimmed thyme and lavender and a bit of weeding and trimming.

Got quite a bit done over past couple of days. Strimmed bank out front, which took ages as its been left too long between cuts. Planted some Lavender and a Catnip against the wire of one of the buns run, so they will be able to reach through and munch. Got more Lavender to plant in the other run but haven't done that yet. Cut some of the hedges. Started moving stuff around from the baths and have transplanted an Oregano into a pot whilst I decide what to do with it. May plant out in one of the runs but suspect it would get demolished very quickly. Planted a Silver Linings fuchsia into one of the sinks. Roger cut grass in front garden whilst I did a bit of strimming. Sat on bench with coffee and scones ( R's reward for mowing grass ) and contemplated this

My thoughts are to remove the larger pieces of burnt wood and the weeds and cover the rest with soil to make a raised flower mound. Not sure what to plant yet. Could even put a small pond close to it.

Planning on doing something with this too, but probably next year. Was going to be another patio, but changed my mind, so going to make another flower bed using some of the plants I've got in pots.

@luciusmaximus I'd probably be inclined to turn the mound into a rock garden.

Agree with Shiney AND I would plant some heleniums, salvias and dahlias in your second area. A "rustle" or two of grasses for sound and movement (a "prairie" sanguisorba like Red Thunder with them) and a few scented plants and it would be perfect luciousmaximus :)
