Sorry. It was a rhetorical question. The slabs are in the photo with the bricks. They therefore came from the same place.

Took some time to prune and fertilize some of the olive trees to prepare them for their eventual return to the greenhouse.

Oh, how I have been waiting to pick these peppers. They are Corno di Toro and are so delicious! I will certainly be saving seed for next season. Please excuse the copyright, as I have found several of my images online with others taking credit for them.

I cut the grass in cat enclosure and made him a ' cat cave ' using an upturned plastic dog basket and a few bricks. Also added two patio slabs for him to lie on - he was previously using a piece of wood but when I lifted it today there were a few slugs hiding underneath it :hate-shocked:, including one monstrous orange, glistening thing . He needs a proper cat avery with a non grass floor. Its on the list.

He's not in a cage, its a section of bun run (approx 15 sq m ) that he is using as a temporary measure until I can get him an aviary. He also goes for walks on a harness. My garden is a wildlife garden and I am not willing to allow him free rein to decimate the birds/rats or anyone else, which is what he would do. Also, its for his own safety. Free roaming cats are at risk from a number of issues and the idea of not allowing them to roam and putting them in harms way is gaining momentum in the UK now. Definitely what responsible cat owners should do IMHO.

Even zoo's are getting rid of cages luciusmaximus ! :(

You should keep him in the house and just let him out to do his business.

PS.. Birds live in an aviary .

I wish my neighbours were as responsible as you @luciusmaximus.
We have several cat visitors who leave their calling cards around the garden and terrorise the birds. We've had dead mice and birds left on our doorstep as presents on a regular basis. Not pleasant when I step out of the door.:yikes:

It's not a cage as such. It's a way of letting the cat benefit from the outdoors without the dangers of running free. The ideal situation would be as Armandii has done and fit high fence all around. Unfortunately that isn't an option for most of us. The next best would be to build a cage/aviary whatever you want to call it against the side of the house. That way the cats can go from the house to the run at their pleasure. Again I don't have that option so my cage is at the opposite end of the garden. Given the choice I wouldn't have it at all. I believe cats should be left to run free. Cats hunt. It's their nature. My cat is only in the cage because it was hit by a car. I have already lost one cat on the road. I was very close to loosing another.

If cats shouldn't be in cages why should birds? What's the difference?

I have seen people that have caged in their patios. They look really good. That way the cats and the humans can enjoy the same space. Cats like human company. Being stuck in the cage our cat doesn't get the attention it would have otherwise had.

Our bylaws forbid cats to roam free. The law has been in place for about three years. When I had a cat, he would be allowed out on a leash only and he didn't seem to mind. He did his business indoors, in a litter box.

Today I will have time to do a little puttering in the garden. Some weeding and harvesting to be done. I've had to start foisting tomatoes on pub buddies and other willing victims! :)
