Very cold here as well but I got some more clearing done where the sun had managed to remove so of the frost.

This morning we went to a friend's house to dig out a very large grass that had got too big for them. I took Michael, the young fellow who helps us in the garden, to do the digging. He made it look easy digging through the frozen ground. We filled three x 70 litre bags and will split it further. Some will go in our garden and the rest will be potted up and sold.

My garden is cold and wet. It's been nice and sunny today but it doesn't reach the garden until mid February, so it's no good doing anything there at the moment.

At the moment the Garden seems to be putting up hundreds of shoots in the borders and generally starting to turn the gears ready for Spring. Some of the paths need a light brushing but I'll wait until they get drier. I've still got some Hellebores and other plants to get into the ground but I'm not in a hurry as the temperatures are still a bit chaotic. I've bought one of the "squirrel resistant" 6 port bird seed feeder to add to the present ones. I'm going to re-arrange the present feeders to other sites in the borders and put the new feeder closer to the Green House.

@ARMANDII does the central column unscrew so that you can clean it out?

Hi Shiney, yes it does. It actually arrived today after I bought it online yesterday. The base has a large plastic screw plug that, when unscrewed, allows you to pull out the seed tube to clean it. It's a bit of a "monster" to be honest, as it looks like it will take a kilo of seed on just the one fill, and I have modified it to stop seeds being dropped onto the ground by fitting a large plastic dish to the base of the Squirrel resistant metal cage so that all waste seed, etc, drops into it. If you remember I've done the same to all my Bird Feeders. I'll post a pic of it as soon as I can.:coffee::snorky:

The squirrel guard on my feeder can be inverted to make it a catcher instead but I don't want that here. The guard is excellent and stops the squirrels climbing. :dbgrtmb:

The birds chuck lots of seed on the ground but that's OK as the pheasants and squirrels can then get some feed that way. The pheasants are capable of balancing on the feeder but it's much easier for them to forage for them. Sparrows seem to prefer picking them from the ground as well.

The funny sight is when the pheasants stand underneath and look up at the other birds feeding and waiting patiently for them to drop seed. :)

1C and dead calm here, so I took advantage of the warm weather, and did a bit of chipping and shredding. First time in the garden this year, it feels great.

I have a few bamboo to plant up, today I found time to cut a barrel up and put one in, I need to make a square planter to go round it now along with the rest of them.
