WHAT JOBS ARE WE DOING IN THE GARDEN TODAY - 2017

• Repotted a Tumbling Tom from the veg trug into its own pot.
• Thinned out some radish.
• Planted some more pea (dry) and put a few others out to soak and plant tomorrow
• Pulled up all the wallflowers - heavy in seed! - and used them to mulch a quiet corner where the hens rummage about
• Trimmed a rosemary
• Fed tomato plants and courgettes
• Weeded the border where the wallflowers had been; unsure what the weed was but there were quite a few of them - then realised they are evening primrose seedlings! Popped a few in a pot and told them not to sulk because I've just saved them
• Watered Ozzy with the hose
• Gave the dwarf French beans a good talking to because they are not showing any signs of life (think they are sulking over Brexit).
• Noticed my stinky plant, which has given me one big flower each year since I moved here, has five flowers almost ready to pop open! FIVE!!!! (Think I might go away for a few days )
• Packed everything away because I'm going out

 

I planted more of my white border up with dahlias and lady's mantle for constrast. Put 8 dahlias in the bed I use for them every year. Fed the raspberries and tied in a few roses and the honeysuckle. Greenhouse is almost empty for the first time in a long time.

 

Did more work on the compost heap, trimmed lawn edges, mowed lawn watered, moved a conifer that was blocking a garden light, moved a few planters on to the satellite dish base ready to plant something in them, pollinated cucumbers, tied back a few plants.

Spent a couple of hours pulling out nettles, cleavers and brambles in front garden. Also got a lot of Ragwort out there . Cut down part of a dead hawthorn and gave a serious haircut to something that is very good for Bees and looks very pretty but I have no idea what it is. Didn't know it was there until recently. Started making a bonfire with the weeds/ dead wood. Cut grass in one of the buns runs and made them a new tent. Got the zero g out and went horizontal for a couple of hours. My excuse is that I was not resting I was actually guarding the bird food from the Starlings so the little ones can eat. There are 60 of them here, mostly chicks with just a few adults to babysit them. I'm expecting more soon when the second lot of chicks and their parents arrive.

Currently sat on sofa whilst cat has his first exploration of the conservatory. Cat is sleeping on the rug . Just been watching Teigan ( hedgehog ) tucking into her evening meal in one of the feeders. I checked her over a couple of nights ago and I think she might be pregnant . There is another hog in the feeder at the moment.

My endeavours today were sporadic: painted a few more pots, but changed to a difference colour for one of them .. totally dislike how it is coating the pot so may have to rethink; did some spot weeding; watering, general moving things left a bit, right a bit, different place entirely

Noticed flowers now blooming on my Tumbling Toms

Really need to give the front garden some much needed attention: tomorrow will be soon enough

Very niche market!

 

Spent 2 hours cutting away more dead hawthorn and brambles from another part of the garden plus pulling up lots of weeds. Not sure what I am going to do with my newly created space. Will post pics tomorrow.

Cleaned out h'hog feeders. Checked hog house under cherry tree - hog asleep in there . Will check other houses tomorrow.

 

Watering veg plot, watering pots, watering front garden. Noticed the lupins I sowed in March are starting to flower. I really need to dig out the front lawn and turn into the herbaceous border ASAP.

Lovely to hear about the hedgehogs @luciusmaximus ..cat settled in well I take it?

Mowed front and back yesterday, while I was nattering on the phone to a friend for a good hour I was doing some lawn edging.. bet I looked odd. Went up the plot with little and big one, quizzed them on what i was growing, they had some strawberries..big one left (bored.. ) and little one helped me water the poly tunnel and the rest of the plot.
Had a bit of a pants afternoon after that..

Today, said goodbye to Heather, cleaned out coop then put up balloons and banners on the front of the house as little one has turned 4 and set up a trampoline, his face lit up when he came home from school! Picked a few strawberries in the garden too!
