Cleared and tidied the 'conservatory' and sowed the first seeds of the season :leek:. Was planning to tidy up the rest of the garden after doing the veg patch last week, but too wet and windy.

Had a great day in the garden and the sunshine. Prepared my new deep trough ready for climbing rose which arrived from David Austin today. That is soaking overnight.

Chopped back all the dead leaves on the hellebores.

Cleared the front beds of some leaves etc

Cleared the back garden pathway and raked up old leaves, moss and weeds from the shady border.

Took 3 wheelbarrows full of rose cuttings and other stuff to the big bonfire.

Checked on greenhouse and seen my seedlings have started to germinate! :hapydancsmil:

Well, due to being busy with other things I've not been out in the garden today:dunno:. But I've made up for that by ordering 3 Yellow Fritillaria
          upload_2017-2-4_20-52-0.jpeg

          and 3 Fritillaria Rubra

Yesterday I tackled the moonscape that had over-taken about half of our grass aka the molehills. The soil was spread out, using it to fill those "sumps" and dips caused by the soil being removed below ground. Of course, this will mean mega mud trails from the dogs, as they walk over the dispersed soil, but it had to be done!

I also roped in hubby to help with the raised veg bed. One side had lost its supports, and so was collapsing outwards. So I dug away the soil pressing against the wonky board (so dry despite the rain we've had - all that sandy soil draining), got hubby to hold the board straight, and used some concrete-reinforcing rods to hold it upright again. They are not going to rot in a hurry!!

Today it will be moving the compost up from the finished "bay" at the bottom of the garden, to the veg bed at the top of the garden. Probably needs at least 5 barrow-loads...

Then I'll join @redstar in raking leaves.:)

Didn't do a lot out there today.

Shifted 4 x 70litre bags of compost from car to store. Then 30 minute sit down to recover :coffee: :old: :)

Watered greenhouse, carport and under covered pergola with hose. 20 minutes + 10 minute's sitting with neighbour's cat on lap :cat-kittyandsmiley:

Potted up 100 allium siculum, three to a pot, ready for plant sale.

Cut back a few more ferns.

Cleared half a wheelie bin of moss from flower beds.

It makes it look more if I make separate paragraphs for them :snorky:

                and "Place Pigalle"

on either side of, already planted, "Patty's Plum
                upload_2017-2-6_22-53-15.jpeg

and then I planted 5 Hybrid Hellobores under my Acer Brilliantissimum. Then another amble around the garden trying to figure out where I'm going to put the 3 Agapanthus, Ornamental Grass, 3 other Perennial Poppies, large clump of Echinacea, Geum Mrs Bradshaw, and a couple of dozen succulents:scratch::doh::heehee:

That top one is lovely! I always like your pick of plants @ARMANDII. I never have success with poppies unless direct sown and they're not the good un's either! Agapanthus is on my list to get too :dbgrtmb:

To be honest, Linz, I never have any trouble with Perennial Poppies, and I have several that are coming up to 20 years old. Whenever, I dig any up, to move to another site, I always seem to leave a tiny portion of root behind which grow into a plant the following year:heehee: Annual poppies seed themselves all other the place, with the Cambrian Poppy

The Welsh want to take over see! :heehee:
My neighbour has them growing from all sorts of crevices. She's not fussed so pulls them up or says I can collect the seed.
I think I'll have another bash at perennial poppies but from bare root this year

Although the Welsh poppies grow OK in our garden they don't do anywhere near as well as the Californian poppies. They flower from Spring to Autumn - as long as you dead head them - and they self seed easily.

The flower is about the same size as the Welsh one (maybe a fraction bigger) but it grows higher (about knee height).

They are like the Hollywood version, more glamorous! I direct sowed a "giant" poppy variety and it turned out to be those! Accidentally pulled one up last year "weeding".. so didn't get to collect seed :doh:I'm hoping the few I did have self-seeded

On one of my annual fishing holidays in Rutland about 4 years ago, we crossed over the border into Cambridge to visit a lake there. Beside the lake was a small industrial estate with a large rough ground car park. There was also a collection coarse sand piles and growing on them, just finishing flowering, were Peony type Poppies.

At the end of the holidays we went back to the lake, cut off the seed heads with stalks and now I have them flowering here and there in the borders.:snorky:
