Hi lucius, Marsh Marigold [Caltha] would be fine as a marginal planted in a pot. It's not an aggressive grower and would stay in the confines of the pot while overspilling, as all plants do, the pot and giving you plenty of flowers. There's a double or single flower variety and it would do a grand job of extracting excess nutrients out the Sink water helping to keep it clear. There is an Alba Caltha as well so you can have a choice of yellow or white flowers [or both:heehee:]. Also a lot of insects will be attracted to them.

    White flowered Caltha

There are two more plants, as marginals, that you might like to consider and those are............
Water Mint [Mentha Aquatica] Insects love them
    upload_2017-11-2_19-38-25.jpeg

and the other is Dwarf Iris such as...
    Iris Reticulata
    [IMG]

    Iris Chrysographes
    [IMG]

There are various colours of Irises, so you have a choice. All the plants, Caltha, Water Mint, and the Irises are happier, if in pots, having the pot submerged by an inch or so of water. You can cover the compost in the pots with gravel, grit, to stop the compost floating up.:coffee::snorky:

:ThankYou: for the suggestions. I had Watermint growing in a half water butt a few years ago ARMANDII and I found it grew so well its roots burst the pot and filled the water butt and it spread across the entire surface of the water :hate-shocked:.

Been removing dahlias out of the pots this morning, had to wrestle david howard out :phew: the tubers have grown very well this year.

I am having to have a rethink where to store my dahlia tubers this year, I bought to many and the tuber are lot bigger, where does everyone else store your dahlia tubers if you lift them ? I normally store mine in wooden box with dry compost but that no where big enough now.

Planted some tulips and daffodils in the vacated pots  still plenty to go, I don't normally get round to it until late Nov into December.

I sold six more irises (money to charity) and Mrs Shiney has potted up more for sale. I don't know whether they will all sell before Open Day. People are always popping in, or phoning up, to see whether we may have some plants they want. :dbgrtmb:

I've done some more mowing and edging whilst Mrs Shiney has been having a blitz on the flower beds.

Next big jobs are pruning the fruit trees and digging, and composting, the veg plot. I'm not sure when we'll get around to those as just thinking about it makes me tired! :old: :snorky:

Perki, could you divide those tubers? Its what I do now for the large clumps.....already done a couple. I would have massive clumps if I did not do this. Besides neighbours, friends are pleased to have free dahlias :)
Mostly my dahlias stay in the ground but the divided tubers....every "set" of tubers needs a stem of course.....are either kept wrapped in fleece in the gh or potted into 5 litre pots of dry compost.
