I've had my first bonfire in 25 years today, my last two gardens didn't produce enough to burn. :) With loads of leaves and deadwood to dispose of it's to far to the tip and too many trips to make. Okay, I exaggerate a little, not so much a bonfire but an incinerator. I decided to play safe as my neighbours garden is covered in trees creating a copse and I didn't want to take the risk of sparking those off. That said I still enjoyed having a burn up, it's so therapeutic. :)

That's what I'm thinking - the whole bed needs digging out to track down the remains of the brambles I've been fighting all summer, so just need to find the grit. I keep checking the freebie websites but no luck yet.

Popped out to the GC this afternoon hoping for cheap bulbs etc , disappointing no cheap bulbs  even though time running out. just picked up some more giant pink impression tulips to add to the other I got earlier.

Been tidying the front border ( Hot border supposed to be) this afternoon while trying to keep up with the football, chopped back heleniums and lobelia etc. Planted 5 Crown Imperial fritillaria finely , couple of Allium Globemaster and underplanted with a dozen tulips.

Planted up 2 barrels and other pots with with tulips and some double daffs, planted about 60 tulips and 60 daffs today, my stash of bubls has gone down  still more to go particularly Alliums and crocus etc.

I broke my shears as well  oh well I wanted some more anyway.

A big tidy up as it was getting a bit messy, brought nearly 100 bottles of apple juice indoors to warm up before fermenting it, washed up all my buckets and pressing equipment, got a load of bags full of pulp and reject windfalls ready to take for composting at my plot, cut up 2 pallets for kindling plus a load of tree branches given to me by somebody who does gardening work.

And just as I get it clear Mrs Scrungee gets a phone call asking if we'd like some free logs, yes I tell her, then ask how big they are - "3 trees with trunks approx 600mm diameter"!, looks like we wont get tidy again for a while.

Weather has not been great for past few days so nothing done in garden. Found one of the two baby hedgehogs under a Cherry tree on Sat afternoon. The other one is still roaming the garden and managing to elude my efforts to catch it. Hallway, lounge and conservatory occupied by hedgehogs - at least I have my bed free this year :heehee:.

Picked up Belfast sink yesterday and R helped me to site it this morning. The plug hole has been sealed but not hardened yet. Weather should be better tomorrow so might be able to start filling it.

Hi everyone! Haven't been on here for what feels like aaaages...mixture of having the awful headaches/migraines or being busy with work! Boo hoo. Nice to read all the posts and catch up on what people have been up to!

Have only managed to get out and do dead heading and mowing the grass lately. Planted a few more bulbs into pots but not even got round to planting any winter pansies etc.

Going on holidays to Cambodia and Thailand on Friday, so Ive got a last couple of jobs to sort, one being dealing with the water hyacinths....apparently have to bring them in from the cold (i hope its not too late as we had a harsh frost yesterday!

We have heavy frost warnings for the next several days, so I moved the orchids from the greenhouse to the indoor grow tents for the winter. Then, I lightly pruned the olive trees and moved them from the deck into the greenhouse to continue their chill period. One of these days I am going to get a hernia moving the darn olive trees. :rolleyespink:

Hard frost this morning the garden looking so sad :frown:.
Removed the tomato and the cucumber plants from the GH this morning, got a couple of cumbers and a tray of tomato to keep me going. Moved the bench which needs a lick of paint and various other plants ( Agapanthus - nerines - lilys - crinum ) into the GH for over winter.

Popped round to see the mother this afternoon and built a small dry stone wall and finished the steps off, Lifted and cleaned of her dahlia's. I forgot to raid her jar for homemade mince pies and buns :doh:I deserve them :snorky:

Does anyone have any ideas for disposal of dirty gravel please? I've made a start on the gravel garden and as a result have large quantity of gravel and soil mixed with more to remove. Ideally a skip would be wonderful but can't afford another £180 for skip hire.

@luciusmaximus could you maybe use it to create gravel raised beds, paths etc- like yourself im loathed to pay for anything to be disposed of and always use any surplus soil to recreate raised beds - the extra plus is as you know it's so wet in our neck of the woods it helps tremendously with drainage- which most plants prefer, great for Lavender, Marjoram.Thyme and Heathers which are all fab for pollinators too
