Ooh no, I haven't looked there.. had no idea they sold them. Thank you Harry!

My parents have a proper 8 man hot tub similar to the canadian spa ones, so know a fair bit about the water treating side of things.. plus I can pinch all their chemicals and test strips, I normally use them for the kids' pool anyways :dbgrtmb:

Ditto the dressing gown Snorky

      DSC_0140.JPG
Ive ordered a skip that will be here tomorrow 6 ton £140 with my discount,

Decided to start digging the stump out after that the roots are really thick, i will dig round them all then borrow my friends chainsaw, it looks easier to uproot than privet at least you can get the spade in.

Sown a few more seeds, moved some germinated seeds out of the propagator. Moved a couple more things out of the greenhouse now it's warmer at night. Generally had a wander around to see how various shrubs had come through the cold weather. Many had been growing quite nicely before the two cold snaps and had lost a lot of the soft growth and leaves. Pleasantly surprised to see that almost all of them have bursting buds on them and new shoots, they come on very quickly since last weekend.

Put my mucky clothes this morning and starting finishing off clearing the borders of debris, dead stems, cutting back old leaves etc. I "tidied up" and lightly pruned the Leycesteria Formosa cutting back the dead portions of the stems.

and while in the same area I used the Secateurs and Scissors on the old stems of Japanese Anemones, Echinops, Erigeron, Peonies, and Phlomis while not treading or kneeling on the shoots of other plants pushing out of the soil. It's amazing how, given a rise in temperature and sunshine, how quickly plants will grow. I did a quick check of the 5 Eerythroniums in pots showed that E. "Frans Hal" was flowering and the one that I thought was not going to "show" [Snowflake] has pushed two leaves above the compost, while the others [White Beauty, Pagoda, dens canis] had already put out leaves weeks ago.
I've overwintered Peony "Shirley Temple" in a large plastic container and, since it's showing some lovely strong red shoots, planted it next to Peony "Karl Rosenfield". Then I checked the other Peonies in that border and found P."Immaculee", "Sarah Bernhard", and "Duchess de Nemours" were all starting to push their red shoots out of the soil:yes: I'll check the others in the other borders tomorrow, although I did walk over to P. "Bowl of Beauty" in the walk around border to find it's shoots pushing strongly out the soil so I cut back the dead stems on it while I was there. There's still plenty to do, but the garden is looking more organised and tidy and you can tell Spring here. Anyway, I made a mug of Tea and treated myself to sitting in the Arbour with Jenny the Cat:cat-kittyandsmiley: for about 20 minutes so I could view the garden and get a good idea of whats happening.:coffee:

Looks like your getting stuck in @martin-f , you probably already know but keep the chainsaw away from the soil it will blunt the chain rather quick, you be cussing when it won't cut.

It does finally feel like spring has arrived @ARMANDII, you have quite a collection of peony's, my mum has a few you have mentioned. I have one myself but they don't flower long enough so tend to go for roses instead. I haven't had much look with Erythroniums I never plant them soon enough to much dilly dallying , they dry out to much before I get round to planting them.

Done a bit of work on the lawn this afternoon, give it a light mow and scarified front lawn and verticut the back lawn ( playing with the machines ) and raked some patches over again. I'll spike / top dress / feed / the lawn this weekend weather permitting, might overseed as well or leave to later.

I've got around 14 or more, some being unnamed old types, Perki, which have been collected over time, the first being "Bowl of Beauty" followed by "Sarah Berhardt" and they have become a quiet passion of mine.

My Wife loved them even more than I do, Perki, but always said, with a sigh, "It always rains when Peonies flower".:dunno: I find that having the different varieties extends the flowering season with them flowering at different times.:hapydancsmil:

Well, this is my first real try with them, Perki. I came across Erythroniums during a presentation of them at the local Gardening Club, a couple of years ago, and bought one in a pot. It flowered and did well so I did a bit of research and last year bought some from a Specialist. When I got them I potted them up in one litre pots filled with a mixture of sand, compost and grit and then a layer of gravel on top. I've left them in a lightly shaded part of the garden, out in the open over Winter, and left them to their own devices and it seems to have worked and they've even survived the -9f that we had during that 'orrible severe cold period.:dunno::snorky:

Calm before the upcoming productivity storm. The most I've done in the last couple of days is put some steel pegs through the greenhouse frame and into the ground and I can finally say I've found a use for our heavy clay soil!

Got a few more bottles for storing the Photostrogen in, so hopefully I won't be back and forth to the tap whilst using it from now on.

Annoyingly the Homebase nearest us hasn't got enough stock for us to make use of their offer on compost so I'll be keeping my eyes open for anywhere else with it going cheap.

I was eyeing up some Erythroniums white beauty and pagoda last autumn, they are quite expensive compared to other bulbs, the local GC sell them in packs of 2 which drives me crazy should be in 3's, I would have to buy 3 packs cause one on its own don't have much impact so two clumps of 3. Think I am getting a bit of OCD on planting numbers :rolleyespink: got to be a odd number up to 7 I am not to bothered after 7 :snorky:. Might try and pick up some cheap erythroniums plants this spring after the GC want rid of them to make room for more stock.

Yep, but I think they're worth it just as an experiment and challenge, Perki.

Well, I bought from a Specialist as I wanted to make sure I would have the best chance of success with fresh bulbs and you can't get the bulbs until the Autumn. As I said before only E."Frans Hal" has flowered at the moment as it's obviously the earliest and, by the looks of it, E "Snowflake" is the last to flower.

I checked the weather forecast this afternoon after I'd got back from golf/lunch/shopping and it said it would rain tomorrow/Sunday/Monday. So I decided around 4.00pm to change the guttering on the garage today. Otherwise I could see our new clematis below the old guttering getting washed away. After all it shouldn't take long should it?

                        Wrong!

I had to reposition one of the wall lights, as the top of it was in the way. which required drilling new holes in the garage wall for the cables and the support screws. Then it was a case of trying to get the fall right, by how I positioned the brackets. So what should have been a one hour job turned into three hours. But it's done now.

I spent a couple of hours tidying up one corner of the greenhouse. It's the workbench area that Mrs Shiney uses. There were lots of potting on trays that needed cleaning and sorting into sizes, pots to clean and store away, well over 1,000 used plant labels spread over the worktop, in pots and trays, tools, pencils and pens and some things that defied description. :snorky:

Potted up another 30, or so, day lilies and potted on another 15 chillies.

Hopefully, get some time in the garden today. Going to remove a couple of things and plant a few more; linaria Dial Park is a beauty just waiting to get planted
Might get the camera out but then I see something to do and the trowel takes its place :noidea:
