WHAT JOBS ARE WE DOING IN THE GARDEN TODAY 2018

Hello! The raggamuffins are all good thank you! How are the hoggies?

Been so busy doing a bit of work again - it was supposed to be a few hours here and there but it got to be much more. Stepping back a bit from it now so can get back to the gardening and travelling :D

Nice to hear your garden is doing well! I'm planning on a new outdoor office and having a partially brick built new greenhouse.

 

Awww, those doggies look very comfy on your bed . Is there any room for you and your hubby . I've got a very flaky hedgehog at the moment. She's been hibernating on and off and is currently wide awake. Flaky skin is a common problem with post hibernation although I'm leaning more towards this being a mite issue rather than just dry skin. I can take some skin scrapings to look at under my microscope but mites ( particularly demodectic mites ) can be hard to find and may take some time. I'm treating for mites. She's well in herself but very itchy, bless her. Going to give her a bath tomorrow which will hopefully help with the skin irritation. Never a dull moment with Hedgehogs

 

ha ha! That's their own double bed! They are spoilt rotten. That bed is more comfortable than my own bed!

Aww demodex can be awful! best treat for mites and see if she improves - good job she has got you looking after her

 

Sweeping off the flat roof and the decking. Maybe thinning the bamboos out. Deciding on where to plant the strawberrys and raspberrys. Then doing my best to find jobs out of the cold wind.

 

I've two packs of gladioli that "followed me home" from Wilko's last week, to plant out. I need to find some room for them. This could be a problem.
I'm trying to keep off the lawn as much as possible.

I always put out daily, seed and Wilko's "tasty dried meal worms" for our different birds. But I'm not going to give the squirrel any more peanuts for a bit. If there's more available than for their immediate consumption, they start to bury some in the lawn. They make what looks like golf ball pitch marks in your lawn, when they bury them. They haven't the sense to fill in the hole afterwards.
I might do a bit of weeding.
I've the weekly koi pool sump and bottom drain to purge, but that's a five minute job.
Then it's golf golf shoes, clubs and trolley cleaning, ready for Monday and maybe clean the car.

I don't want to do too much as it will be a late night, being Superbowl Night!

I'll watch the first half and record the rest as is usual, as I've got to be up early for golf. It's the only decent coverage the BBC have of this game.(It's mostly the USA feed). Their weekly, "blink and you'll miss it, but watch the studio comedy act" nonsense, annoys me.
I've watched when I can, the American Football on TV for thirty years, since the days of Joe Montana and Jerry Rice. Our youngest son who's built like the proverbial brick **** house and could run, played tight-end for an amateur team here, for ten years. My wife and I followed him around the North West watching him every Sunday. She picked up the rules. I remember on one occasion when play was stopped she turned to me and said? "Was that because they had an illegal receiver downfield?" I was amazed that she knew.

there goes that plan, just started snowing.

 

We were out for a friend's birthday last night, so a quiet day pottering about outside in the winter sun was definitely needed today! Planted a few seeds (salvia, foxglove, and the first lot of sweet peas) and generally tidied up a bit. The problem with having a small garden is I don't have a useful corner to "hide" the mess in, so it just accumulates everywhere until there's enough of it to warrant a tip trip or fire.

 

That makes a change, I'm usually digging myself in!

 

More work done on the borders today then removed some oxygenating plants along with algae out of the pond, ive left it at the side for any critters to crawl out, then set the pump running for the afternoon.
