@Verdun thanks. The choice of climber was the next project I was going to bring up. If I go for a jasmine, what are my priorities?

Does it have to be evergreen? If not then there are more colours to choose from. There would also be autumn colour to look forward to. If I left the hanging baskets up I could provide winter colour that way.

If I look for an evergreen, do I want summer flowering, default seems to be white although there is a yellow variety, or do I go for winter flowering? Again I could provide summer colours with the hanging baskets.

    Decisions, decisions.

The rain earlier on had stopped, so I finished off potting on 27 Lupin "The Governor" into single pots and then potted on another 29 Lupin "Tutti Frutti" into single pots.
I've still got to pot on in either single pots or 4 cell trays, Echinacea [around 150], Hollyhocks Giant [around 70], Eschscholzia "Orange King" [over 200], Aster "Milady" [around 70/80], Aubretia "Cascade" [around 100], Verbena "Intensity" [around 40], and finally Aquilegia "Lime Sorbet" [around 50]. Luckily, I should have enough pots and 4 cell trays to cope, and it does feel like I've got the major part on the potting on done.

        Ha ha Gary....indeed. Decisions, decisions!:noidea:
I have forgotten if that site is warm and sunny or not but if it is a trachelospermum is such a classy climber. Foliage, evergreen here but semi evergreen in most places, and lovely scented white flowers. Not super fast but will grow reasonably quickly so why not have both for a year or two, viz. hanging baskets and a climber?

ARMANDII, you are going to have masses of colour there this summer :) You have a pretty big garden??

It is a shady North facing spot. It might get some sun on summer evenings.

Well, I have always had the "bad" habit of over planting in the borders, and anywhere else I can plant, Verdun :dunno::heehee: Some of the plants will go to Friends and Neighbours, some will go the local Gardening Club for their sales in the May Bank Holiday, while some will go South to Shineyland to add to the Open Day sales, and what's left will go to my garden. I also have over 200 Tomato plants of 5 varieties in pots for the same destinations and also my Green House.
I've also got a load of different plants that I bought especially for my borders so it's going to be a major job to find space among the already established hardy perennials, roses and shrubs.:dunno::heehee:

Not really, Verdun. It's approximately 125 feet long by 94/95 feet wide, gently sloping down away from the house, with the Wildlife pond situated down in the Southwest corner, sits on a depth of about 350 feet of sand and has narrow paths so that you get brushed by foliage as you walk around. So it's fast draining, but probably less a "hungry" soil than when I first bought the House in '78 due to the initial adding of 180 ton of top soil and decades of compost, both commercial and garden created, and a little bit of TLC.

Hello, I'm new here and I was wondering if anyone here could help me.

I have a huge problem in my garden.

I hired a team of gardeners in on Friday, I told them not to touch the wisteria which has been growing for years and is very, very large. Well, a member of the team apparently doesn't speak English and has no garden experience, so he has literally hacked it all down to a stump.

I'm devastated to say the least. I adored this, it was the pride of my garden.

I have someone coming tomorrow from the company, they were very apologetic. I have to see what they can do/offer, there is no salvaging it this year (I'm so upset as it had so many furry bits ready to become beautiful). But does anyone have any advise on what I can do to try to promote growth for next year? He's really gone to town on it and stripped it, but it's always been a generous bloomer, I'm loathe to replace it outright if that's what they offer.

@ammy I would wait a bit before doing anything drastic. Wisteria are hardy plants and can take a brutal pruning, I not sure about how well it will do cut down to the stump though. If it is alive it will show growth this year. How old is the wisteria ?

Raining this morning but cloudy / sunny this afternoon evening . Had a potter around this evening and pricked out and potted on quite a lot of plant this morning, not as many as armandii though :blue thumb:. Not impressed with the weather forecast over the end of next week, back to 2'C overnight no good for my little plants.

Your new lawn come along well @wiseowl it looking really well :)

Still painting @Verdun :nonofinger: should be in the garden :hapfeet:

Hi Perki, thanks for the reply.

It's very old, it was here when we moved in. It's just a worry as it's been done like this and before it's even had the chance to bloom!

Are there any tricks that help it along with it's growth? Or any particular feed that I could give it to help it along?

We just adore it and baby it, and to see it all hacked to pieces is awful.

Today was my first day in the garden since last year, so lots to do.

I dug out the weeds on top of my patio fruit trees and top-dressed them. I repotted and removed dead leaves from 6 x foxgloves and 9 x Nepeta plants I picked up off the reduced section at B&Q and I planted new F1 cucumber seeds as the others had bolted and were long and straggly.

Cleared more rubble today only a bit more to do now and the second stump to dig out, skips nearly full the last few bits will full it ive had to carry it to the skip in buckets,

Ive gone through all the soil and got any bricks out and got some lovely mounds to go back down.
