WHAT JOBS ARE WE DOING IN THE GARDEN TODAY 2018

Looks like a day in the garden centres for me.

 

Nice one Verdun ....your weather sounds better than ours...nothing but again and two days back we had sleet come down

 

Spent an hour out there this morning.
Painted the new caps on the tops of the two posts that support the pergola on the back of the house. Tied up the new growth on several clematis.

Mowed the lawn.



Sprayed "everything," some greenfly on one of the roses. Found one lily beetle, so sprayed all our tree lilies.

Checked the Sumbucus for blackfly, found none, but sprayed it anyway.





Checked these two tree azaleas. I was concerned a couple of weeks ago as I couldn't see any buds. Gave the small acer a trim.



Needn't have worried.




The two acer palmatums are looking less straggly now the leaves are out.



But this bigger one might need some shaping later in the year.



This was the clematis that I bought from Wyevale that looked dead, so I took a photo back to them and they refunded my £22. It got relegated to here and has since perked up. You can still see the dead foliage that led to my concern, "but no subsequent feelings of guilt."

In to grab a cold lager....it is scorching here Cornwall is having sunshine in the west but not so good in the eastern half so the adage "the sun shines on the righteous" is true

Planted phlox David....one of the most scented forms I think....polemonium Stairway to Heaven, hosta Liberty (divided last autumn), salvia patens Cambridge, another stipa gigantea (again, divided last September), a couple of heucheras, divided a couple of miscanthus, divided and planted hemerocallis Golden Zebra, potted on Hordeum Jubatum and did a lot of weeding.

 

The olive trees have spent the winter indoors under grow lights, finally, the weather is permitting me to move them outdoors for the season.

Our Chief Exec recommended a garden centre near her, I put the postcode in Satnag, it was 22 miles away - 44 miles round trip to a garden centre. Hubby was not too too chuffed seeing as all we bought was a Mexican Fleabane and and a pack of radish seeds

 

Kazza just tell him you needed the break...end of

 

It was a new Blue Diamond garden centre - it was huge. I think we were in 3 hours

 

The best garden centre locally, well... 15 miles away is Bent's, supposedly the best in Europe. It's massive.



If you don't buy any of their expensive plants, you can get a nice meal in their restaurant.
On fine days you can sit outside on the big patio.

@Doghouse Riley , we do like to go and have a look at Bents , just off the East Lancs. Must have been 10 years ago when we were having the patio relaid. Mrs H saw this lovely patio slab in Bents... £78 per square metre ! I said if our patio was 1 square metre , that is the one we would have You really need to play for Man City or United to buy from Bents !

 

I've heard you need a bank loan to buy plants or food from Bents GC, I fancy a trip to barton grange GC but price wise its probably similar

Been damp all day so in and out the greenhouses, pricking out seedlings, repotting over wintered plants now coming to life. Sowed some lupin seed, moved some plants onto the outdoor staging to avoid the snails. Grow bags into the greenhouse to warm up prior to planting up.
