WHAT JOBS ARE WE DOING IN THE GARDEN TODAY 2018

Planted a potted loganberry and did some weeding.

 

You have to have a loganberry logan!

 

Put a new shelf up in my greenhouse today.

It's not totally complete as I ran out of cropped bolts so I ordered 20 from ebay.

Next step will be putting up a fold-downable table ready for autumn.
I already have one on the north side but you can never have enough storage space in the greenhouse.

Sprayed all my roses with Roseclear.

 

Had a great day in the garden. Jet washed the side fence to get rid of the algae and muck ready for repainting. Weeded all the front borders removing the grass, edged the grass and cut it.

 

I've mentioned before, I find jet-washing a bit therapeutic...well the first twenty minutes, then it can be a chore.
I can remember a neighbour, jet-washing her drive. She got all kitted up in waterproofs, (I use old wet-weather golf gear), she wore also wore wellies, a sou'wester and goggles. She was well protected except for her face. When she took her goggles off she looked like a panda!

 

What a beautiful day. It' 8.00 and it's still light enough to work outside. Today I thought I would get stuck in.

First thing I did was to level off the excess soil around the back of the shed. Doing this enabled me to finally move my composter off the patio and into it' permanent position. This is ideal timing as the annual council waste subscription is due for renewal.

I then moved on to my main project.


The water feature barrel went in place first. Next came the lithodora in front. It' looks really tiny in this picture but it's a good healthy specimen and it's flowering beautifully. Either side went the two halves of geum tangerine. Not visible in this picture is the kniphofia mango popsicle that went in behind the geum next to the summer house. I was going to wait until it started to shoot but as it was a healthy plant when I bought it I had every confidence that it would survive the move. Taking it out of the pot I discovered an extremely advanced root network. They were pipecleaner thickness. I was most impressed. The other addition to this will be the stick in a bucket crab apple tree that will go further towards the back. I'm going to leave that until the autumn to give it a chance to beef out.

I have decided that from now on before I plant anything I will see how it looks from a distance. Today I made the mistake of judging my spacing by how they look close up. I am fairly happy with what I've done for now. There will be more colours and textures to be introduced over time. At the end of the day, plants can always be moved if they are not in the right place.

More work done today, garden lights sorted out i need to pick a new bulb up as one got broke when the tree came down, seat planter made it needs a jet wash and a paint, rockery made i will probably move the stones a little i need to pick a large pot up i will try a spill display i think this year, more leveling done is just about ready for turf but i will do the climbing frame and get the few plants in first, one of the clematis is lacking nutrients and needs to go in the ground asap,

Hi @Gail_68 Its been raining for the last couple of weeks. It's been a while since I've been able to do anything constructive. Today's little foray is a step in the right direction. It will look a lot better next year when all the plants have filled out. There will be more plants going in the spaces behind eventually and an ornament or two in front. I have also organised some nice spring bulbs. Watch this space.

Well today i went out towards dinner and trimmed my lavender plants with my Bosch trimmer because as soon as i cut them, it's not long before they need doing again and OMG what a relief from using clippers

Nice to hear off you Gary ....the weather as been nasty this time last year the beginning of march our slabs had been cleaned.

Well i like what you've done and a nice statue would look nice as i find they make a garden

I am unsure what i want in here permanently i need to do lots of studying as to what to put here so this year i will do something like this coming down the rocks obviously on a smaller scale might do three pots different plants in each ,



This will enable me time to decide what i want to do with it permanently and choice plants accordingly

 

Martin don't take offence by my comment because no harm meant ...but from the first pic's you showed which resembled a tip ....to moving it and the progress your doing it at, you can see a lot with the eye on each new pic

Yes you need to get your plant co-ordination right with it coming from the rocks down...thinking cap on as it won't be long before your own it
