I did say, earlier, that I'd only do standing up work today, but it didn't work out that way! :noidea:

At 6 a.m. I was out there filling a wheelie bin with goose grass - bending work. Then came in for a long rest and then this afternoon I've trimmed 200ft of lawn edge and cut and made 50ft of lawn edge :phew: Then I dug all the weeds out along the new edge and followed that with hand pruning a giant conifer and a mountain ash.

Went out for a second time this afternoon, did a bit of hoeing, cleaned out the bird bath (again) and replenished the birds' food tray. Current visitors are, blackbirds, robins, dunnocks, blue and great tits and a flock of about five starlings. A couple of fat pigeons hang about from time to time, but they can't get any of the food. My wife keeps a stock of magazines by her chair. One thrown at the French windows, sees off the pigeons for a bit, but doesn't bother the other birds.

Might do a bit of painting and path pointing tomorrow afternoon, it's a normal golf morning for we retirees, "who don't get bank holidays."

Finally got to clear out the small greenhouse on the allotment, I tend jam all kinds of stuff in there to overwinter, but in summer it is primarily used for the larger cacti.
Looks better now, things can breathe and the cacti get their first watering for 6 months.

OK, so I need to clean the glass.

I like your cacti, they look great.

That's spotless compared to mine. I don't clean my glass in case the greenhouse collapses! :hate-shocked:
            Well, that's my excuse :snorky:

I've just bought some thin leather gardening gloves. They're almost as thin as cotton gloves so easy to use :blue thumb: but you'd have to bring them all here. :)

I had a bit of a potter this evening. I transplanted the rest of the rogue bluebells at the end of the garden. This time next year there should be a nice carpet of blue down there. I gave my lizard a good scrub. I don't think it actually made much difference. It's showing it's age, bless it.

My begonias tips have broken off. Is there any reason why this should happen? Will they grow back? I would liked to have started putting them in the garden at some point in the not too distant future.

                      G.

Fog rolled in last night, quite thick and eerie - all 3 fog horns going off in Holyhead harbour. Still here this morning but thinner and gone by mid day. :hotsun: all afternoon through to sunset :yahoo::yahoo:.

Planted up two belfast sinks and top dressed one with rose gravel. Painted raised bed ( different colour this year ). Planted newly purchased herbs in a pot. Planted new grass by the pond and a water plantain in the pond. Rearranged some of the rocks by the pond. Made a start on cutting back some of the brambly areas. Watered pots on patio.

I noticed when planting new grass that my three Pony Tails grasses are not looking too good. They've lost their tails and look like they've been scalped. Kind of weird, they look like they've been cut rather than snapped off .

Terrible smell in back garden this morning, the someone has died kind of smell . Checked hog houses - I've had poisoned Rats go in them to die before. Couldn't trace smell. When the sun moved onto the garden the smell disappeared. Very strange

All three of my remaining :hhog: are now awake and will be ready for release soon

Heard a shuffling noise late last night and grabbed a torch....a hedgehog. Said "its ok fella" and left him/ her to it. :) I think there are at least two hogs in the garden.

A slug/snail hunt just now revealed more than I expected; the wet winter prob suited their breeding ability!! :noidea: Not sure pellets are that effective anymore

Planted out linum perenne, gazanias, gaura papillion, agastaches Coral and Mandarin and planted felicias and fuchsias in containers earlier :)

Waited for the sun to die down to sort the greenhouse out and looking good on one side.
From left to right: Two mini cucumbers (La Diva), Red Cherry Tomato and Okra Baby Buba.
The terracotta pots have chillies in them.

                                SDC11643.JPG

Usually my cucumbers manage OK just with a single cane but this year I've treated them to some mesh.
I cable tied some Guttering mesh to each cane.
Just £1 in Poundland for a large roll.

Whilst in Poundland I picked up two more terracotta pots, an Achillea Cerise Queen and two of these lovely clay pots. There are two other colours which I'll pick up when I can. I love Poundland.
